Whooaaa, ... and I usually don't like fantasy swords! Its a spiky crossguard away from being Frostmourne lol it does remind me of frostmourne but I think it will be more awesome

I've tossed around the idea of a sword based on the Kylo Ren light saber but I have no idea how to do that justice.

Just wanted to update everyone, as you all helped me to make the decision. The Windlass H/T arrived, and I am certainly pleased. I was over the moon when it arrived. The size is perfect for me as Im only about 5 10.
The scabbard HAS no SHWIIING, which was one of my main concerns about purchasing the sword. Looks great!!! Feels good. Even though I got extra sharpening its not razor sharp. But not such a bad thing.
I have noticed some black marks on the blade not so sure what these are. not very noticeable but there. any advice on some maintenance tips, minimum requirements?
Now Im just looking at different places to display the sword.

Windlass H/T? It doesn't need to be shaving sharp, unless you're trying to cut through heavy linen. 'Pretty sharp' will do for most backyard cutting. Glad about the scabbard - even the one I just bought last year still had that issue (for the bastard sword). I'm assuming you got the bastard sword in the end? That depends what you mean by black marks on the blade... the one I got had some discoloration near the cross, but no marks on the blade. Think you could get us some pictures? Minimum maintenance requirements would depend where you live. If it's not very humid - some light mineral once a month or two months would be good. I personally clean the old oil off with rubbing alcohol before letting that evaporate, then apply new oil. Too much oil is often worse than too little... apply it and just run a cloth over it till you have a very thin layer, no droplets, just a bit of a 'sheen' on the blade. If you get it down to that little of oil, it's fine to store in the scabbard. Good luck with the display - that's mostly personal preference. If you have it out in the open, it may need to be oiled more often, depending where you display it.

Ill try get take some pics as soon as I can. The marks look like they are coming from within the scabbard , But I am not to sure as of yet. Oh okay, cool, ill bear that in mind about oiling. I think once a month should be ok. Its in a dry cupboard right now, in the scabbard. Not had a chance to rub off any sort of Oil that it came with. I literally un-boxed and just admired it. Maybe try some test cuts over the weekend.

Good deal. Yeah, the marks might be from the scabbard. Even if there's no 'shinnng' - that doesn't mean it's not scraping the scabbard. When you do clean it the first time, definitely do rubbing alcohol, liberally. Have two to three pieces of cloth ready the first time - because sometimes that grease that they ship it covered in will make a brown/black mess as you rub it off. Hopefully that grease is the source of most of your black marks, and it will look much more clean. (I wouldn't clean the grease off until you're ready to oil it the first time though!)

The H/T bastard sword has a longer grip than most 'bastard' swords, but I thought it was just right, personally. Be prepared to redo the grip though, the base one is kinda sad, on both swords. Yeah - check out the measurements before you decide... the H/T longsword has a longer grip than most feders. Also - I highly recommend Steven Huerta's work. You seem like you'd prefer to do customizing yourself though. In the case of either sword, if you intend to cut with it, the edge will need touched up - and the grips will probably need redone, at the very least. You've already heard of the scabbard issues. I will certainly, one way or the other, get that grip redone. It is just so bland. And the blade so nice looking!

You won't be disappointed in that case if you're looking for an agile medium cutter. It's incredibly fast for its size. Doesn't handle like an 'actual' Trim or Tinker - but it's also about a fifth of the price. Admittedly I haven't handled more than a dozen production swords, but the H/T line is the best that I've touched. (Edit: Sorry for semi-threadjacking, pattyb. Just helping the new guy get his footing. ) Please, hijack away! I'd never want to prevent my fellow forumites from making someone feel welcome (AND make the best sword purchase choice possible!). We seriously have a great community.

Soon (tm) - there will be a (semi-mythical) collection thread of my own up where I'll have my customized H/T longsword and bastard posted. They're pretty amazing looking swords for the cost (even counting the customization cost). (Edit: Only semi-mythical not because of its epicness, but semi-mythical because I haven't had the time to just GET IT DONE.)

I actually got mine for a steal (189.99), so any customizations go down even smoother.

I just received the H/T longsword Steven Huerta redid the grip on and he installed a Printed Armory Viscount pommel from LG Martial Arts, it looks and feels AMAZING! I'll be doing a separate review on it and the Kingston Arms XIV he redid (once I finish copper plating it), but until then, you can head over to his Facebook page and scroll down a few posts and see the sword in all it's glory! www.facebook.com/shcustomleatherworks/It's been given a waisted grip, black wrap and kept the original guard and scabbard...it handles incredibly, literally the most comfortable grip I've ever held on a sword! I couldn't put it down, it's fantastic...I can't say enough how impressed I am with his work and thankful for how affordable it was! I was lucky and ended up with a good factory scabbard that didn't scratch the blade, but if you want something really special, I would go with a guard/pommel set from LG and a custom scabbard/grip from Steven in a heartbeat!

I bought one of the fullered Tinker bastard swords from Kult thanks to this thread. I used Kult's fine sharpening service. It's a nice piece for the money. The blade is a bit thinner than I prefer but it cuts well enough.

The UPS man was at my door earlier today with a big, long box. Damn, I love it when that happens! Upon unpacking a mile-and-a-half of brown KoA paper, I beheld a beautiful sight. My H/T Bastard!! Perfect condition, and fairly sharp...nothing a little stone work won't fix. But, yeah, that generic grip is begging for some help. It's okay for now, but some risers and other little deco will really help. I may try a half-wire wrap. I still want the longsword though....maybe cross 'em behind a shield. (For when I'm not outside murdering innocent water bottles.)
