How strong are the tangs? I saw a video with one coming loose, but I don't know if that's a recurrent issue. I don't know about - you mean, the nut coming loose? If you have that issue, there's always epoxy - I haven't personally had it though. The only issue I know of, as dchisenh brought up - there was an issue with the tangs breaking on the blunt version only for a while, because they were hardened to the same point as the blade. The sharps don't have that issue... but I didn't know exactly what pattyb was thinking of getting, so that probably should be brought up. :) Yes that was the issue I was thinking of. Thanks!

Thanks for your input greatly appreciated. Im a complete novice, so a little anxious about the purchase. Yes you are correct, I guess i put them down to be being both hand a half swords, I find both aesthetically pleasing. and are about about similar price range. Do you own the H/T.?

You mention the scabbard issues with the H/T - but you're not really getting apples to apples either. The Agincourt's 'scabbard' is hard leather, more of a fancy sheath. It doesn't have a wood core like the H/T. That makes it far more flimsy, and much worse for long term storage in general. I was able to fix the 'scraping' issue with the scabbard by widening the mouth of the H/T scabbard's chape with a dremel. It takes some patience, but it can be done. Thanks! I was unaware about the storage issue. This could be an issue. are you pleased with the overall build of the H/T. any major faults you personally have found? and maybe one thing you really like? Lol thanks all!

Thanks! I was unaware about the storage issue. This could be an issue. are you pleased with the overall build of the H/T. any major faults you personally have found? and maybe one thing you really like? Lol thanks all! Generally, a leather sheath/scabbard isn't going to be as nice as a wood-cored scabbard for long term storage. Even properly vegetable-tanned leather doesn't like oil in contact with it for long periods of time. Overall - I'm quite pleased with the H/T's overall build. As I said, the factory 'sharp' edge on it is not great - but getting it resharpened fixes that easily. The scabbard is one of the only other issues, and that's fixable. I guess that you could say that the grip is quite plain, as are the fittings, as negatives as well. But for the positives? This blade is a very agile thing - it's light and fast, easy enough to swap between one and two hands - as well as still managing a decent amount of presence for its size. It makes an excellent light to medium cutter, and is a very quick sword. This was actually the first sword I handled that 'felt right'. (I own a few now that put it to shame in the handling category, but the price generally backs that up.) The nut construction is solid - but if you don't trust it holding up like a peen - you can always epoxy it yourself.

The store doesnt have the Agincourt in stock, I just oredered the H/T for $230.00, lets hope I am satisfied, if not ill save for the next one lol. Thanks for all the input, information & advice.

Good choice. Hopefully you added sharpening to it - if you're intending to do any backyard cutting.

You won't be disappointed in that case if you're looking for an agile medium cutter. It's incredibly fast for its size. Doesn't handle like an 'actual' Trim or Tinker - but it's also about a fifth of the price. Admittedly I haven't handled more than a dozen production swords, but the H/T line is the best that I've touched. (Edit: Sorry for semi-threadjacking, pattyb. Just helping the new guy get his footing. )

Can't go wrong with H/T! Probably the most competent work on the market for the price. I've rolled around the idea of picking up their knights sword and having it modded into an early side sword.

So glad this post kind of exploded! So I poo pulled the trigger on the longsword from the sbg store. I really thought about the bastard sword but, gah, that longsword blade is just so pretty. Going to get a grip rewrap and a new pommel from printed armoury. Have bought and sold plenty of katana and now I'm ready to beef up the euro swords i own.

Ha, I feel really positive about the purchase now, with all the positive comments about the H/T bastard. That statement about it being competent gave me goosebumps haha. The only thing in not very keen on is the grip. A little plain, but a project to look forward too. But here in the UK we don't have as much variety as our American cousins. So I am pleased with all the positive feedback. I fell in love with the Ronin Katana Euro Sword #8 but cant find any one selling this in the UK. I don't want to risk purchasing from the US as our laws can potentially stop the order from entering. unless anyone has some experiences to share?

There are some great craftsmen on the forums who can make a more stylized grip if you decide you're not happy with it. I'd recommend some but those I know are across the pond from you.

As far as I am aware I would be able to bring sword "accessories" from America. Just have to pay customs etc. its buying an actual sword thats illegal unless its older than a certain date. if it isn't too much trouble, you can share some of the recommended? Would be nice to have a general idea of what is out there. Just a quick update Sword has been dispatched and my work colleague has just informed me that he has some tools I could use to sort out the issue for the scabbard. (if i happen to experience what others have) Turns out he is a sword enthusiast, I didnt know this and worked with him for about 9 months!
