Fancy gambeson with either a secondary outer gambeson but more likely a brigandine of some sort
High brown leather boots with cops on the knees
Fancy cuffed leather gloves
Joined hose for pants
Regardless of it being an outer gambeson or actual brigandine, for the look and comfort of wear of just a costume I'd just get a gambeson without arms
I can't say 100% but I'm 99% that outside of jousting you wouldn't see a shield mounted around that spot, it's not even correct for that.
I can't speak much about all of it historically but except for the shield it all seems quite believable, it's very light protection.
I can't give you a personal experience with a good budget sword but I've heard people being happy with the H/T Euro swords? Someone else can give more info on that surely, or you can find it yourself by looking around
I can however give you some links for shops you can browse for the outfit.
A project like this would easily rack up $1000+ I recon, depending on where you get from, if you buy high end it will cost a lot but you can get it made with little customization needed, if you buy low end you'll have to get tools and parts to customize it yourself which also costs.
Let's start with the lower end, production stuff, not made to measurement.
I won't write about these stores as I have no experience with them or their products, most of which I assume is indian made, but I have seen lower end budget stuff put together with them and with some work it can look and work decent
www.medievalcollectibles.com/www.gdfb.co.uk/www.museumreplicas.com/You could get some base pieces from these stores I am sure, and by customizing it yourself get a look that is ish like this.
Now for the the high end, custom made stuff.
Gambeson/Clothes:
www.medieval-market.com/These guys will treat you very well and let you customize what you are buying as long as you contact them with a design, I own a full soft kit made by them and it is amazing, there was a mixup with my first order where the gambeson was natural linen when in their color reference that color looked green, they promptly updated the picture on their website and let me return it and made an entirely new gambeson, at no extra cost or shipping as well as allowing me to change some measurements for a perfect fit, GREAT service, but not on the low end in prices.
Armor:
www.armorysmith.com/These guys dont list their prices, you have to contact them, they will do anything from mild steel to stainless steel and titanium, mild being the cheapest.
Now this look doesn't need much actual armor so I wouldn't bother going with expensive custom made stuff, but these guys have a good reputation in SCA and battle of nations, I've communicated with them back and forth a bit and am going to order some pieces from them, in a relative sense when it comes to armor they are cheap, but it is made to order and as such will hurt your wallet regardless, I'd not recommend it for a project like this, and their website is currently under construction.
Leather / Clothes / Gloves / Etc:
www.ravenswoodleather.comI could see the Hero Gloves in dark brown would be very good for this look, but you'd want to have the gambeson first then ask if they can make the gloves to fit over it, of course they are $189 gloves so it's definitely high end
I haven't dealt much with these guys as I have only purchased their 5 inch cuff gloves, but boy are they the comfiest nicest pair of gloves I have owned, I'm sure you can get better for more money and custom made but these are miles and beyond most production "swordman" type gloves you will find, and it looks like their other products are of the same quality, they also take on fully custom projects.
Clothes / Armor / Misc
armstreet.com/They make good stuff, but for armor I'd rather go with armorysmith linked above
Their clothes are nice and I am currently waiting for a pair of shoes from them
Belts / Leatherwork:
www.todsstuff.co.uk/ /
www.karlrobinson.co.uk/index_leather.phpCan wholeheartedly recommend both of these, Karl makes some amazing pouches, don't own any of his belt as my belts come from Tod, both a pleasure to talk to.
Last don't forget copious amounts of hair gel.
Hope it helps you with some ideas as to what to expect and where to look!
