Ten feet?! You do realise how much whip that is to control? I hope you are good at lifting weights mate, you'd need it for ten feet I've always wondered if a well cracked whip would cut water bottles or tatami.

Is it even kangaroo hide? Because on the site you bought it from it says that its actually just cowhide in the fine print....

I highly doubt it ....... I really don't want to think about the screwing I took trying to get a whip

Its a pity that I only picked it up after you bought it, otherwise I could have given you a heads up. I don't know anything about whips, but I do know about getting screwed when you're buying stuff....
"Specifications Redhide leather is actually cowhide, specially tanned for whip leather, it is very serviceable and a less expensive alternative to kangaroo leather."

8' bullwhips do not need a lot of upper body strength. You need full arm/body movement that's smooth to crack a whip. you should be able to do a soft crack(little energy) to a loud one(more strength put in), it's all technique. You don't use the wrist in the crack. If leather whips are too expensive, get a nylon paracord one first. much cheaper and easier to maintain. You want to practice on grass or in an indoor gym NOT pavement as that will scruff up nylon or leather pretty fast. Top of the line bull whips are northernwhipco.com/www.delcarpiowhips.com/ordering_00.htmlthe heavier leather whips are actually more forgiving, maintenance is required. Good nylon whips rhettswhips.com/2009/04/25/whip-wilson-nylon-whips-down-under/www.joescustomwhips.com/

Here is a site that some may find useful. whipmaker.ca He makes mostly entry level whips for a very reasonable price. They seem to hold together well enough though, bought a generic 6 foot bull, been learning on it, which is always hard on a whip. The site has a huge links section, worldwide whip making sites.
