Sword: the picture is so bad I can't make out anything about that whip mate and that would make me cautious. You have to understand that the whips from aussiewhipmaker are made by Australia's whipmaster, it is the albion of whips, it is to whips what the albion discerner is to swords

I wasn't saying buy it mate I was just letting you know what level of whip I was talking about. I think if the one from the company you linked to is actually good, which I can't tell then you could go with that one. It really depends how heavy the use will be.

16 plait is too many, it takes far too much maintenance to look after them, anything above twelve plait is ridiculous unless you really love having to maintain your whip. I would suggest looking for a whip that is kangaroo hide 8-12 plaits and about 8 feet long.

Try not to hit the ground or anything too hard with it or you could break the "back" of the whip, also I recommend learning how to make your own "poppers". Make sure when you are finished playing with it you roll it up, rolling with the natural curve of the whip and put it somewhere that is cool and dry.

If you keep it clean and dry and store it in a cool area it shouldn't need to be waxed mate, not for about 3 months, when they plait a whip they use alot of lubricant to make the plaiting easier.

How skilled are you with a whip, sword? 8' - 10' needs alot of upper body strength and a great deal of skill to crack a whip of that length. Although good kangaroo whips of that length are anywhere from $300 to $500. The technique I employ makes the handling of an 8' whip quite managable. Don't really know how this technique compares with accepted practice. Cracking is very easy (almost effortless) and quite safe for the operator. When I was in my early teens I was fascinated with whips, purchased a few and even built my own (more accurately "rebuilt" purchased whips). And I have spent many enjoyable afternoons "cutting" beer and soda cans in half.

All I need is a ten foot bullwhip, a big fedora, and a man playing the Indiana Jones themesong to follow me around.
Then I'd be set.
