I still haven't seen anyone carrying anything larger than a big, pouched lock-blade or at he most, a small fixed blade with a length that was probably legal in the first place. I used to carry my Schrade Sharpfinger everywhere until the sheath wore out. Guess I need to make a new one. I don't see the whole matter escalating into any kind of 'scenario'. Yes, there will probably be some isolated events of violence and pure stupidity, but those would most likely happen anyway--be it with guns OR blades. Dueling culture? No...can't see it. If anything, it'll probably be more akin to a chicken-s*** attack from the rear or blind side. Outright murder. We EXECUTE people here for that...and even lesser crimes. Maybe not all 'legally-performed' executions.....but this IS Texas we're talking about. ......Chris

Conspicuous carry is a fantastic term. Thank you for that. I'm not opposed to the idea of open carry, but there's certainly a point where it starts becoming awkwardly cartoonish. Unfortunately, openly carrying a sword falls under the latter at this point. Would it be fun to take my sword for a walk? Probably. I know of some really cool places that I'd love to do some photography with them. I just know it would be an exercise in poor judgment to actually strap the thing on and hit the town. Yes, lets hop on the ol' bus with a four foot bar of sharpened steel swinging around behind us, why, there is nothing to be nervous about .

Just carry a short sword like a gladius or something. Eventually people will get used to it!

If it's fashionable, why not? Women destroy their feet in the name of fashion.
Though I would much prefer carrying a sabre or messer instead and just let my serfs carry the zweihander.

Rapier and Main Gauche are very fashionable. Together with ostrich feathers on the ten-gallon hat!

So...I just braved the waters and wore this monster into the grocery store. No one so much as batted an eye towards it. There was also a sheriff's deputy in there. He saw it on my hip and didn't say a word. I guess I'm saying --Wear 'em if ya got 'em. .....Chris

Hey, Crocc....There's a house for sale across the road from me! We could sword-fight with blunts in the middle of the road and piss off the neighbors. ....Chris
