How hath thou me SLO'd Nay, not again For absence makes the heart grow fonder And beyond ten I will not count for shame

My favourite swords are mostly fantasy based so I'm guilty on the Sword Like Object, though most that I own are made to be used they probably never will be, demoting them in to the SLO category if they are not used for cutting or pell work, a recent addition and one of the first swords I bought. Stormbringer with an Albion Knud for size comparison A windlass Slayer of Kings.

Closest thing I got are some Kit Rae Throwing knives. But the steel should be fine in that length Ditto! Ah, and my lady has an SLO Witcher3 sword set... ;-)

Ah, and my lady has an SLO Witcher3 sword set... ;-) Aside from this narrow ricasso, the metal is quite thick. They seem kinda sturdy I used to have stainless tactical swords lol. But I didn't buy them.

I've given away most of mine, I think the only ones I have left is my wife's little fantasy dagger and my tiger katana 3 set.

As I mentioned, I have one. The Marto Highlander Sword of the Dragon (Duncan's sword). I could see where a newbie would think this a functional katana. It balances and handles well. The blade is sharp. The hamon while fake almost looks real if you didn't know better. Mine has no markings on the blade but has the Marto mark on the habaki. The stainless steel (420 I think) takes a magnet just as strongly as any of my real swords. I was surprised by the magnet test thinking it would have a weaker pull but not the case.

I have two, as well as a few overdesigned and impractical daggers. One is a stainless steel cutlass, which honestly makes for a good prop and feels solid and tight enough to swing around. The other is a "Last Samurai" themed wakizashi. It was absolutely dirt cheap, but honestly looks and feels really good. For an SLO, that is.

Totally missed this thread. I have one of the Windlass Kingdom of Heaven swords. The serrated one. I guess the sword of Saladin? Heavy sob slo.Totally useless, though very well build. Which, much to my surprise, is correct, since the originals were all ceremonial swords.
Cheers.

If we are being literal/pedantic wouldn't a nagamaki or pudao necessarily be a SLO regardless of construction?

No, but they could be a NLO or PLO.

No, but they could be a NLO or PLO. Why? They are both polearms which are sword-like in their form and function. It seems to me they are quintessentially sword-like objects.

No, they're pole arms. Totally different field of weapons.

Quintessencially perhaps yes, but pedantically no.

No, they're pole arms. Totally different field of weapons. That would be why they are sword-LIKE, and not sword-actually.

No, they're pole arms. Totally different field of weapons. That would be why they are sword-LIKE, and not sword-actually. Well, considering spears and knives came well before swords, I'd argue that swords are knife-like, but not spear-like. It's like arguing that dogs are giraffe-like because they have four legs and a tail...
