I only have one which is an older Marto Highlander Katana.
Why do I have it? Marto supplied this model to the TV show for many seasons. It is identical to the actual TV props used. Most were refitted with different blades for the non-close shots and sparring scenes. The unchanged prop was used for close-up shots.
Anybody have a SLO out there?

LOTR ranger sword, Omani dancing sword, some dress swords that could be called SLOs, a Bali keris SLO (KLO?), some tourist things that could be called SLOs, an old Toledo wallhanger rapier.

I have a few: MRL Atlantean, I would call this a SLO despite I think it's a good construction. A "decorative sword" roman 3rd cent. spatha. A migration period "sparring sword", don't know if it's really a SLO or only a blunt.

I have two Pakistani slos that were my first swords, and I just got a marto carlos V sword (brass hilt version) to play around. It actually looks quite nice and the tang is much better than I thought it would be.
I've actually recently begun looking at more wallhangers, particularly rapiers, because many of them have decent hilts and sempriniesque blades. If I can remount a hanwei practical blade in one it becomes something a bit nicer. For the most part.

My first and likely last movie sword is the Windlass Sleepy Hollow sword. I guess that might qualify. Some of the old diplomat and stepping out swords, and fraternal swords probably qualify as well. In a perfect world, the snake might get sharpened.

Oh, numerous. Four of those katana/wakizashi/tanto sets, two individual kats, and five fantasy/medieval swords. All bought long ago, before I knew better, and kept as a reminder/warning...

It is a shot from last year's Settler's Day @ the Manville, RI sporting club. A two day, the weekend of the fall equinox. I have been going since 2003. www.msrgc.com/ C'mon down! As always, open the image in a new window for bigger.

No SLOs yet, but I have been horribly tempted on more than one occasion...

I have the United Cutlery Anduril, and a 20 buck Japanese sword set I picked up for 10 at a yard sale. Love the Anduril because it looks fantastic; the Japanese sword set just gets more depressing the longer you look at it.

My first katana that I bought for Iaido ,it was ok but had a tendency to bend if you pushed it against something :o ,bend it back the other way and it was fine....Just as an experiment I hit it edge to edge with my Kabar ,result was the Kabar cut into the katana and didn't even mark the coating on the Kabar (rofl)

Closest thing I got are some Kit Rae Throwing knives. But the steel should be fine in that length

9 Japanese/chinese/german officers dress swords, not sure if they classify as SLO. Have a poorly done dao with skinny tang (not welded tho) so I may shorten it and made it a shorter dao. One tang dao with hamon running off, it will do ok in a fight I guess but it is an fatal flaw.
Had 5 or 6 SLO in the past, gave them all away, one was razor sharp but had very thin tang, it ended up slicing the new owner's finger down to the bone (it slid out of the scabbard and guy tried to catch it), 2 months rehab.

I did back in the day. They are all long gone... Same here haha. I had a couple back in the day. Gave them away though. Luckily, I found this forum long before I invested heavily in wall hangers. Plus the stores also guided me into purchasing proper swords, somewhat. While they think full tang is enough of a reason to call a stainless blade battle ready, at least they had some name brands

I have a HUGE stainless steel fantasy Scimitar that I bought from BudK probably 25-30 years ago. I actually thought half-seriously about cutting the blade down and making a monster Bowie knife out of it. .....Chris

Funny thing is when you talk to non-sword people, they don't know the difference. Nothing wrong with a SLO as long as you know it is for display or as mentioned in the thread, possible parts for a functional blade. A few folks have mentioned carbon steel blades that are functional but the assembly makes them unsafe for actual use. These type swords are also in the SLO category. Some can be tinkered with to make them functional and some cannot. There are some really nice display swords out there that are way above the cheap ones. I like a few Marto models and certain LOTR ones.
