Then: Zerschmettere Schwerter und zersplittere Speere. Nichts besteht vor Schildbrecher. Mein Ort ist die Quelle von Waisentränen. Meine Schneide der Witwenmacher.
Or in a more norse saga way: Schwertzerschmetterer, Speerzersplitterer. Nichts besteht vor Schildbrecher. Ort der Waisentränenquell, Schneide der Witwenmacher.

After all that (thanks Andi)!
I feel as if a VA craftsman war sword customized to be Shieldbreaker is sort of mandatory now... 😂

Also to anyone interested.... Saberhagen’s Book of Swords series is a fabulous read...
Twelve swords of power that each have a divine gift and an absurd weakness plays out in a glorious Game of Thrones “Rock, paper scissors” saga...
The complete song of swords of which I pulled Shieldbreaker’s lines from:
Who holds Coinspinner knows good odds Whichever move he make But the Sword of Chance, to please the gods Slips from him like a snake.
The Sword of Justice balances the pans Of right and wrong, and foul and fair. Eye for an eye, Doomgiver scans The fate of all folk everywhere.
Dragonslicer, Dragonslicer, how d'you slay? Reaching for the heart in behind the scales. Dragonslicer, Dragonslicer, where do you stay? In the belly of the giant that my blade impales.
Farslayer howls across the world For thy heart, for thy heart, who hast wronged me! Vengeance is his who casts the blade Yet he will in the end no triumph see.
Whose flesh the Sword of Mercy hurts has drawn no breath; Whose soul it heals has wandered in the night, Has paid the summing of all debts in death Has turned to see returning light.
The Mindsword spun in the dawn's gray light And men and demons knelt down before. The Mindsword flashed in the midday bright Gods joined the dance, and the march to war. It spun in the twilight dim as well And gods and men marched off to hell.
I shatter Swords and splinter spears; None stands to Shieldbreaker. My point's the fount of orphans' tears My edge the widowmaker.
The Sword of Stealth is given to One lonely and despised. Sightblinder's gifts: his eyes are keen His nature is disguised.
The Tyrant's Blade no blood hath spilled But doth the spirit carve Soulcutter hath no body killed But many left to starve.
The Sword of Siege struck a hammer's blow With a crash, and a smash, and a tumbled wall. Stonecutter laid a castle low With a groan, and a roar, and a tower's fall.
Long roads the Sword of Fury makes Hard walls it builds around the soft The fighter who Townsaver takes Can bid farewell to home and croft.
Who holds Wayfinder finds good roads Its master's step is brisk. The Sword of Wisdom lightens loads But adds unto their risk.

Verity and Fald - Yes, the VA War Sword was on my must have list, until VA made their recent changes. Now, I will wait until Fald reviews his recent purchase of a VA sword with an in house made blade. Regardless, I would like the majority of my medieval collection to be swords that I like, are of quality, not cost prohibitive AND keep at least the majority of their value (saleability). For me, that appears to be sword makers like Albion and ATrim, due to their high quality and supply/demand dynamics. If no one that has owned sharpened Albion Squire Line and Next Gen swords comments, I will email Albion about my blade edge concern. I saw the Angus Trim Facebook page. Did not realize he had a stroke four (4) years ago. On Nov. 30th, he commented that his goal is to make 80 swords in 2018. I hope I can purchase a XIIa from him. I have a decent amount of faith in Sonny, or I'd never have put the money down. Also - you're right. There's not many medieval sword lines that keep a decently high ratio of resale value. Even big custom pieces have trouble being resold sometimes. Albion and ATrim are probably the only two. Maybe VA will be up there - their lower priced line usually re-sold extremely well. I heard that 2018 was going to be it for Gus, then he was going to retire (again). It's always a possibility he will come out of retirement again after that, but - just a heads up... rumors and speculation based on what he and other people have said. Hope you get the XIIa.4 though - ATrims have a touch of something special in their handling that is impossible to really describe.

I now have Sonny’s war sword on my “list” with customizations. Your review may influence where it is in the queue.

Since I likely won't get to take my birthday off work, I'll be taking a day or two off when it arrives. Definitely will get a review up at that point.

Fald - I am sure VAs new swords will be incredible if they make their blades like they do their high quality scabbards. Regardless of price, VAs are mega functional and "display worthy"....as well as many other brands.

(albeit not his new line) And another sword with Sonny’s scabbard and grip work... (on an Angus Trim blade...) Talk about delicious!

But those were on their budget 'Practical' line, which seems to be out of commission now. I highly doubt that I'm going to see tool marks or other issues with this sword.

Going to be a long few months though!

I just emailed Albion about the Squire Line blade edge vs Next Gen blade edge. I will report their response.
"Guinea pigging", been there done that. Sometimes it's a high five and sometimes an oik! haha!

Just to finish follow up, Mike Sigman of Albion responded. He knows I am sharing his response to the forum (I put his comments in the Squire Line v Next Gen thread as well).
I commented that I thought the Squire Line and Next Generation blades were the same, but the Next Gen. blades had more finish work, yet the blade edges were different? Mike said, "The blanks do start off the mill the same. With the Next Gen swords, we take the edge down to a sharpened edge. With the Squire line, they are left at about .5mm thick and we put a secondary bevel or knife edge on them. Both will cut just fine, but the Next Gen might have an "edge" up on it because of the more historical edge. I hope that helps."
Then, I asked Mike, could a customer pay more to have the Squire Line blades ground all the way down to a sharpened edge? He emailed me back immediately. Mike said, "No. That is where you would have to step up to the Next Gen. We don't offer that with the Squire Line swords."

Fortunately or unfortunately Albion tends to keep themselves thoroughly in the Production category - they don't do customs on grips, or really anything with the blades. I can respect that - but it's also where they tend to get a lot of their sales. I remember there was a big to-do in one of the Principe reviews where they sent one out with the wrong grip, and made a new one to send out to get the 'wrong' one back.

Fald - Yes. Production works for Albion. Although, considering the long wait time, custom options would be nice.
805 - Good to know. Must have GSOW in collection. ....would like to make the tip a bit more sharper too.

Wanted to thank everyone that helped me this past year. It's been fun and therapeutic for me as a recovered from my illness. I researched and researched and concluded that I want a small selective medieval collection focused on Oakeshott Types XIIa/XIIIa and XVa/XVIIIc. Will try to collect a max of 17 swords, including the Windlass Atlantean, fun cutters (Hanwei Tinker GSOW, Ronin Alexandria, Albion Squire Line Great Sword and Bastard), several higher end productions (Albion Next Gen Baron, Duke, Mercenary and Alexandria, Albion Museum Line Briscia Spadona, RobMiller War Sword, Atrim War Sword, Maciej Kopciuch War Sword and the Valiant Armoury War Sword), several customs (Jeffery Robinson and maybe SBG Fantasy Project/ John Lundemo/Odinblades/Longship) and one antique.....all display case worthy. Haha!....eh Can only commit to approx. a $1,000 right now. By end of January, will order the Albion Great Sword and Bastard as fun cutters, made razor sharp by Lonely Wolf Forge OR the Albion Baron OR something eles. Just agonizing over what to order first, since it's a long wait. ....of course this is just my game plan and is subject to change.

If I were you I'd hunt the classifieds on myArmoury and put a "wanted" post there. With Albion's current wait times, chances are you'll find something quicker that way. And possibly to a very good price.
