No tomatoes from me for “Sentimental Journey” nor “Twilight Time”. As for the video, I remember Miller and many of the crew (Hutton, Tex, and the Modernaires shown in the video) well, not to mention “I’ve Got a Gal in Kalamazoo”. Love the Kalamazoo tune and had worked on lyrics as a comic alternative. K E L L O G S...... i'VE GOT A BOWL OF COLD CEREAL ...and so on. I have also worked on Calzone instead of Caldonia....... What makes that pocket so hot! Sentimental Journey and Twilight Time were an A and B sides recording in 1944. Doris Day singing on the A side and the B side just instrumental. The Lyrics for Twilight Time originally just a poem. I had and still play both as instrumentals. Like the old rock and roll movies, the big band movies also have a lot to offer.

Or, more recently this one. For obvious reasons... Arrr! Ha, a band named Alestorm singing the virtues of Rum...I sense something alcohol related. Honestly, a good Bourbon, Scotch, Tequila, Irish whiskey is hard to beat, though I'd suppose you'd have to choose the right rum.

One of my mottoes. Stay clean! Keep your record and your nose clean, don't misbehave, just keep to the booze and ciggies, you'll be okay! Relatively speaking, this is generally good advice. There are, however, some poor souls out there who simply cannot handle the booze, and just keep drinking the stuff until their lives are destroyed and their six feet under. And then, you have those who have died from "misadventure" with the sauce, like Bon Scott, John Bonham, Jimi Hendrix, etc...horrible losses.

Too many but here are three I really like:
1. Carmina Burana by Carla Orff (used in 1981 movie, Excalibur and plays in my head all the time)
2. Man in the Box by Alice in Chains (grunge rock rocks)
3. I want to be loved like that by Shenandoah (song about honor and loyalty no matter what)

My wife recently asked me this and I agonized over it for days. My problem is that I have adult ADD and my favorite song seems to be highly situational. I mean, do I go with Slayer-Mandatory suicide, Heather Alexander-March of Cambreth, any version of What a Wonderful World? Tough question. Lately though it seems to be Blues Saraceno-Carry Me Back Home.I discovered his music through a video game called Rebel Galaxy. I'm not usually a country kinda guy (mostly metal and punk rock), but I love this guy.

In have a few bands that I still enjoy and listen to from my teenage years namely P.O.D., Chronic Future, Linkin Park, Breaking Benjamin and my favorite band which still is Circa Survive. But lately I have moved onto Contemporary orchestra music, which you usually find as the soundtrack to movies. Guys like Hans Zimmer, Michael Giacchino, Johann Johannson are what I listen to lately. But my favorite composer is Olafur Arnalds. I really cannot find a song of his I don't like. One of his most moving performances is where he plays Gleypa Okkur (Icelandic for 'Absorb us') at Bridgewater Hall with a full orchestra.
Olafur is the guy on the piano. He was 22 years old in that video.
Then there is the song tunglið (Icelandic for 'the moon') which I adore and use as my wake up alarm for the past 5 years.
And lastly is one of his newer songs where he paired up with Nanna Bryndìs Hilmarsdottir, the lead singer for Of Monsters and Men titled "particles" (which is English for particles)
Edit: You asked for a reason why my favorite song is my favorite. In my younger days I never realized that most of my favorite songs had a backing violin or piano in it. When I grew away from my emo music I found out how much I enjoy those two instruments when I found a musician who masterfully incorporates both into his music. Oly is the best when it comes to those two and I have been hooked ever since.

Tex Ritter, High Noon. A man with a purpose and a little romantic twist thrown in. If you have never seen the 1952 movie, it is a classic.

Yeah, that's great, but since my youth I really like bagpipe without AC/DC or the Dropkick Murphys too.

I don't really do favorites. I have a wide-array of things I like, but I really can't order them hierarchically. I would probably give a different answer every time I was asked, but at the moment I post this my choice is: Tears by RushI was never into prog. rock when I was younger, but my wife grew up deeply immersed in the genre. After turning 40, I started exploring the classics of progressive rock like Rush, King Crimson, Yes, The Moody Blues, et al. This music speaks to me now in ways it didn't when I was younger. I appreciate my spouse opening my eyes to something I have come to deeply enjoy, and her favorite song from her favorite album is Rush's Tears. I think of her every time I hear it.

....then I remember the song that was an anthem for me most of my life and in some ways still is: That's a classic right there! --- Today's favourite, from 'Norwegian Pirate' from Two Steps From Hell's 'Archangel' album. Great, epic background music:
