I wanted to share with you guys my latest comission. Many of you may be familiar with the image of the kneeling knight c. 1250 from one of Matthew Paris's manuscripts. A member of another forum had always wanted a replica of the knight's sword and commissioned me to re-create it by modifying another sword. Here is the sword I began with. deltin.net/2132.htmThe original sword was extremely blade heavy...in addition, the new pommel was going to be taller than the original, so the decision was made to create new blade shoulders a little further down the blade and to thus extend the tang. The cross was modified to fit the drawing and the pommel was created to best fit both the drawing and to better balance the blade. The original balance point was 6.75 inches down the blade. With the re-shouldering and new pommel it was changed to a much more maneuverable 4.5 in. The blade also was sharpened from the dull Del Tin edge to a nice sharp apple-seed edge, which deals with Milk Jugs most effectively Finally everything was wedged and hot peened as Albion does. The almost completed project.....just missing the grip wrap. And a closeup of the hilt. Let me know what you guys think, Dan P.S. As soon as the epoxy in the grip sets and I get the grip wrap on I'll try to do a little more of a photoshoot if anyone wants. Dan

I like it. Your grip wrap is going to be tricky with the pommel recessed into the handle, so it will be interesting to see the results. Are you going to do a matching scabbard like the one in the picture?

Thanks Brian and xanatoas. Yes, the wrap is going to be a little more difficult because of the recess.....but i think I have the solution down.....so we'll see how it turns out. As far as the scabbard....I would love to do one to complete the set, but at this time the gentleman has not commissioned one. Dan

Do we want to see pictures?.......silly question......YES please! That pommel looks very cool, seems huge though. Did you fabricate it, or acquire it?

Steve, yup, that pommel is huge....it's a full 2 7/8" across. I would have preferred to do a slightly smaller pommel, but that's the size the customer wanted in order to match the drawing. I fabricated the pommel...it started life as a 3" x 1" slug. Dan

Nice job! This looks really good.
Now isn't Albion working on one right now called the "Chevalier"? I can't wait to see it!

I'm not sure if there's someone selling Del Tin's in that part of the world...the only dealer here in the US is Art Ewell www.arts-swords.com/I'm assuming any pricing would be similar. Overall Del Tin makes a decent sword, but they try to be too many things at once and end up not being great for anything. They don't have enough distal taper and they're blunt...so they don't make a good sharp without some work and they aren't quite thick enough to make a good sparring sword......but still they're pretty nice...and some models are better than others. www.arts-swords.com/item/DT-DT2123.aspPHEW! I know Del Tin is very reputable, but 400 bucks for a blunt that's just a step above Windlass....I can't see taking this over an Atrim. And hurry up with those pics!

For the impatient: I can only make glue dry so fast Here are a couple of pics of the completed piece.....I'll try to get a few more shots later. The grip is done in campaign brown. Hope you guys like it. Dan

Dan, that is a VERY impressive sword. Lovely pommel and the grip turned out very nice. More pictures, more pictures! I love seeing this kind of stuff. Makes me wish I had an artistic aptitude. BTW, what's you wait time up to now on commissions?

I was wondering what the eiffel tower had to do with sword customisation personally.

Well, I'm not the world's best photographer, but here are a few more. First a shot of the old girl standing. Then her reclining Then another one reclining...this time showing the blended peen...kind hard to see, but that's the point isn't it? and finally a couple in hand. Dan
