Here is some shots of the simple chiselwork I managed to get done today on probably my last working day in the shop (plus the 15 or so hammers I managed to get done over the weekend), I named and marked my sword. Sorry Mr Wheeler, no phallic or compensation thing goin' on here, I don't call my wang Hammer or anything like that either . It's going to be my sword so I thought it appropriate to give it a fitting name, it will be a *bit* on heavy side, well balanced but still a heavy hitter so the name Hammer came to mind. Comments and critique welcome.

Hammer sounds good to me, I like the placement of your mark, and the engraving looks pretty good. It's a bit on the rough and rustic side, but then again, it's yours, so of course it is. I'm anxious to see it finished.

So this chiselwork, what does it involve?
I guess it must be done hot...

Random, yup you got it buddy thanks:D. Blood, maybe . I am very anxious to get this one done too. Matt, I did the rough light cuts first on the cold blade, easier to place the markes neatly when your hand is not in a burning glove over 2000F steel, then come back and do it all over again while hot. I made my little chisel I used too from H13, good for the hot work.

I would need to get some stock in before I made my own small chisels. I have no suitable carbon steel round or square stock in small enough size to make a nice engraving chisel. Only flat leaf springs and whacking great 1" and 7/8" torsion bars!
You know the good old brass brushing technique? I was thinking, as a twist on the idea, would it be practical to inlay brass wire into your carvings? I got thinking about that the other when I was tying my heat treating magnet up with some brass wire...

That is a form of Lucerne Hammer. It is a Swiss weapon.

Got it all ground today, it is now ready for heat treat, here is a few shots to tide you over, I have more but the camera is being a pain in the tookus. Overall Blurry close up shot Tip detail Tip detail other side Good idea Mogur, but it sounds a bit too much like a wrestling move I would do (and happen TO do). plus I can't change the hot punched in name anyway hehehehe . As I said before, the outer edge bevel is polished, with the ridgelines you see in the middle all forged in by hammer.
