Thoughts? Can someone with better knowledge than me explain some of the variables involved and give good instructions on how to get measurements that might be relevant to a manufacturer (e.g., "These are the things that the specifications should include that we can measure ourselves with a tape measure and some calipers...")? Excellent way to infer a level of quality. If a manufacturer keeps within six sigma numbers at every variable you can have confidence in the rest of their processes. Has anyone ever asked a manufacturer if the have a QA manual or better yet asked to see it? As to which variables to track; the ones that fail the most would be the obvious place to start. On katanas the symmetry of the wrap, the tightness of the tsuba etc. On European blades perhaps the pommel and how it was attached etc? Also it is easy to track visual flaws, lack of paint/finish etc.

Looking for a recommendation here.. I gather that there are many concerns regarding the tangs of dsa swords, however, surely their messer wouldn't suffer from this issue? Or is the blade heat treat unreliable as well? Im asking as im looking for a messer and the dsa one doesnt look all that bad.
