I just need to buy a Work Sharp, then I'll be set for awhile. Next paycheck maybe, haha, just bought the bastard sword. I can't recommend the work sharp system ($70 version, not the Ken Onion one) enough. Yesterday I sat down with it and turned my 1917 cutlass from a dull crowbar into a razor sharp laser beam. I'm not even kidding. It might have been pure luck, but I gave my sword an appleseed geometry (sort of) by accident and it cuts incredibly well. To the touch it is sharper than any of my Katanas and it's all due to work sharp. I love that thing. Can't recommend it enough.

Never used one before but I figure I'll just go slow, and learn as I go. I'll probably practice on a few bowie knives first..

Hm it's often been the case that work sharps are discouraged for sword honing. But if it starts off blunt, I don't see why not (just probably more attention than usual to temperature and color).

I don't use it as stationary belt sander but in the hand like other honing tools. So less danger to overheat, you can control the power switch all the time.
Its a tiny little belt sander which makes an appleseed automatically, because the belt has not much tension. But therefore you must take care not to round a pointy tip into a spatular one.
I tried to sharpen a Hanwei/Tinker blade dull 1/3 from the grip with files and sandpaper, much much work and sweat. With the work sharp it was a matter of few minutes.

The RK nodachi is so tight and solid, I'm wondering if I shouldn't get their viking model while they're in..I'm really impressed with this sword. It's my first one though, so I don't really have anything to compare it to. But I really like it..it cuts VERY well, feels great in my hands, and like I said, everything is very tight. Feels really well made. Like I could cut through a brick wall with it. Lovely sword. A keeper:) Yep. Getting the RK viking. Right now.

Lmao, 3 days with huge spiders loose in the house must be hell for an arachnophobe. I've got close to a hundred now, I'll be slimming the collection down soon to make room for other stuff. There's at least 20-30 I'll be keeping til the end though. Which could be another 20-30 years for the females. Just can't let my favorites go. Latecomer to the conversation... but whoa! Dude, can you post pictures? I love spiders - always wanted a tarantula ever since I got to hold a Pink-Toed in school.

I erased the ones on my phone, but when I get a chance I'll get on my laptop, I have them saved. Im at work so probably tomorrow.

Dude... What kind of job you have? You're buying a new batch of swords every week! How do you afford it?

I didn't realize how expensive this hobby was until I hit about 11 swords, glad I am blessed enough to pursue it like many of you guys here.

It took me years to reach to reach 5-6 swords, and even then, it took miracles and low standards.

I'm a security guard I wasn't always one though. The money I've been spending is just overtime pay from working 60 days without a day off. Already have a nest egg so I thought I'd treat myself. I figured several decent swords were better than one or two spectacular swords, and besides, I'd be afraid to actually use a nihonto or an Albion or whatever..those are for people that really do have money, not security guards:)

That's actually a great idea, they could use it. One thing is certain..I WILL NOT ruin one of my new swords

Another thing you can do if you get too excited to save the swords is start on pool noodles. Perfect for form, won't damage the blade and I doubt it will even dull the edge as well

I keep reading about pool noodles..I need to look them up, I dont know what they are. So far Ive cut cardboard boxes and jugs of tap water. So far no dulling or damage to the Ryujin or the RK o katana. Though I have struck some misaligned cuts..it just launches the jugs, or knocks over the cardboard. A clean cut feels very good, and this is way easier then learning golf 😊. I hate golf..and I love it..Its like women I guess, hehe. I'm starting to think some instruction wouldn't be a bad thing, as far as the katana goes..

I know the left hand, or off hand is where you get your power, and I know not to have my leading leg in the way of a cut. But thats about it.
