I'm Scott, nice to be here. I've been learning a lot from this forum, and I appreciate all the information being shared here. I've been a collector of firearms, knives, and several different species of live tarantulas and scorpions for some time. I also have three dogs, two cats and four horses:) Then I found out you can buy real, functional, durable swords for a reasonable price. So in the past week I've bought two katanas and a claymore , and I'm currently drooling over one handed medieval weapons, and Viking weapons, and ancient gladius. Gladii? Anyway, I'm doomed to spend the next several years reading everything I can about the subject of swords, buying them, training with them, etc. Should be interesting. I've seen a lot of friendly folks willing to share their knowledge in the short time I've been a member here, I'm looking forward to getting to know you all better and discussing my new hobby. Thanks for reading, and I'll see ya'll around.

It's a good thing to keep your options open. I was a strictly katana guy for a long time, and it was to my detriment. I lost a few years of time with Euro swords, which are delightful in their own right.

We're in the same boat, my friend..I'm even looking at a Cinquedea, which I believe is just a really long dagger, not even a short sword. I have 3 bowies, I don't even need long knives for god's sake..those just look really unique though..kind of ugly with all the fullers but appealing for some reason. Doomed..

That's how it began with me, I was focused on katanas, then I started reading posts here about the Euro swords, and started reading reviews, then looking at HEMA stuff. I'm loving this hobby already. My bank account won't hold up for long though. I just need to buy a Work Sharp, then I'll be set for awhile. Next paycheck maybe, haha, just bought the bastard sword.

Hello again an welcome! I have that "era and style" thing too, and a work sharp. I try to buy a new sword only after ca. 3 month or so. When you have a few typical swords already you become more picky. That helps, ... I hope...

Forgot to say hi from over here in the Philippines! Hi Croccifixio. Your area has some interesting tarantulas, I'd love to go hunting for a few species there..scorpions too.

Used to collect spiders when I was a kid, hunting them in talahib (local long grass) but my mother is arachnophobic so I had to give that up the day our househelp accidentally released my collection. Took me 3 days to find all of them and my mother was just going crazy.
Haven't actually seen scorpions though.

Lmao, 3 days with huge spiders loose in the house must be hell for an arachnophobe. I've got close to a hundred now, I'll be slimming the collection down soon to make room for other stuff. There's at least 20-30 I'll be keeping til the end though. Which could be another 20-30 years for the females. Just can't let my favorites go.

Indeed, friends either refuse to enter my room, or have to be kicked out because they think they're at a zoo. I hate it when they tap on or touch the glass..

That's probably going to be my entry for the Halloween photo contest. I was thinking two or three, but that's risky. Spiders don't play well with others..
