Oops wrong shop. That's a Hua Wei.Probably offering the best of the eBay blades. The blade should be good, tough. The fittings will be average eBay quality which is just ok.Likely a cheap alloy.Tsuka should be good and tsukamaki will likely be loose and sort of ugly. Its a functional sword tho and blades are usually very good for the price.

Pretty decent looking, like the natural saya and the deep maroon wrap. 9260 TH will be really durable and Hauwei is quite renowned for their consistency in heat treatment and quality control. Might be waiting awhile though as they ship directly from China (longer depending on where you reside) so that's been usually reported in reviews as a 2-3 week shipping time to North America, specifically US.
As long as you're not expecting something high end you wont be disappointed, you bought a sub $300 sword from a quality respected vendor so it will relate and be comparable to other quality sub $300 swords of the same merit.

Hi Guys sorry to regenerate this thread, but did the OP receive a katana from this company. As they are still on the web, and some of their swords/katanas do look ok. I quite like the T10 Shirasaya but in the literature is talks of 1095 steel ??
They have no email contact details or tel no. which rings alarm bells, it seems made not to have an email contact unless Ive missed the details...
The website is samuraiswordsshop . com any info or knowledge of them would be very welcome, I didnt want to spend £300+ on something that looks nothing like the pictures and performs poorly.
Used to get my katanas for JW steel forge which were on ebay but theyve since gone.
Any info appreciated.

This web store is a re-seller of Chinese Ebay swords, at a higher price.
The only advantage of buying there is maybe finding some old models no longer sold by the original Ebay sellers, like the Huawei katana for example, if you don't mind paying inflated prices.
I just browsed the website and found a chinese katana I gifted to my wife last Christmas, 25% more expensive, very same sword.

I am sorry as I don't want to sound argumentative, but my Wife's katana is listed in Canadian $$$: 273.71 CAN, 212.49 US (you can see the 2 prices at the bottom). Samurai Workshop is: 296.44 US. It IS the same sword, even the seller's logo over the pic is the same: ninja-katana. Also, Ebay Chinese sellers often use multiple identities so they have a fallback option if they start getting bad reviews.
You're asking how to know what the quality and the heat treatment is, well you can't know. Buying online is always a gamble, even from well established stores like SBG or KoA or SotE or wherever, though you usually have a better chance of consistent quality if you buy from well known stores.
Considering Samurai Workshop re-sell Ebay swords, (the 3 shirasaya you listed are known Ebay sellers blades) I'd say buy straight from Ebay and save money.
Your first link is a Huawei sword (compare the background's picture, the very same), though likely an older model Samurai Workshop have still in stock.
I can't comment on the other 2 shirasaya, your guess is as good as mine. And about folding you are right, it isn't necessary, just pretty. Chinese use T10 steel, which is practically the same as 1095.

Hi thank you for your message, my bad over pricing, saw the USA price and the samuraiswordsshop converted it automatically in to £ and the two figures were very close. But I now understand, and yes Ebay is much cheaper.
But here in the UK we cant buy off Ebay, no swords, knives, or any weapon in that respect. So we are now limited to standard online retailers if they'll ship or forums...
Funny enough the 3rd of your links I contacted directly to see if I could buy outside of Ebay due to the restrictions. But they kept sending ebay links to purchase and ebay stopped the purchase automatically, so that has been difficult. So here in the UK to be able to buy t10 katanas etc apart from a few UK sources whose quality has been pretty poor, we are stuck.
I assume your Wife's Katana turned out well and you were both happy with the quality.
You have been most helpful and thank you for the ebay links, I may just have to bite the bullet and purchase one and see how it is, there is little I have found as to reviews this has been the closest place so far, its a great site.
Thanks

Sorry, didn't realize you were from the UK, and indeed the sword buying situation makes it harder for you. Like you said, you may have to try out something else.
Did you try contacting Sinosword? I have read on the forum that they can provide certificates stating that the blade has been forged traditionally, so you can actually buy a curved blade in the UK. From what I understand, if you try Sinosword you want to communicate with the owner, Van Wang.
Hope you get what you want. Will try to find the thread, will edit the post with a link.

Edit: You may want to read that thread, it may well apply to all sword buying from outside the UK.

Hi thank you for all your input, very much appreciated. I have purchased one of the katanas from their website and will put up a review once received as I cant find any so far. Hopefully it will be good for the money but we'll see what comes.
