Said in a Monty Python voice..
But seriously, 2015 seems to be the year of the spammer.. Its 2am in Osaka and I have spent the last 5 hours just deleting "essay writing" comments from the areas of the main site where we allow contributions and I am only half way through..
If I find one that keeps on coming up I have a look to see if they have a facebook page and write for them to cut it out..
Prior to 2015, almost all the comments were legit. Then BANG almost every comment now is a spammer making some weird irrelevant comment and posting a link.
Once I am done deleting them, I will have to make it so comments need approval before they go live - which with my usual schedule (pretty much 12-14 hours of work 7 days a week) means the only people that lose are honest commenters who have to wait for theit comments to go live..
What a waste of time, I know the mods here hate spambots with a vengeance too.. Anyone else with a site have any Spam stories?
- Paul

The only good spam is the type you cook and eat.

I'm in charge of reviewing new applicants on another site. When I first took the position about 5 years ago I'd have to sift through about 75 new applicants a day. After checking the ISPs and the email addresses for spammers through spam checking sites, I'd approve maybe 2. It would take about 45 minutes to an hour every day. That went on for about 18 months before the site Admin was able to get some new software to prevent spammers. Now I check only several times a week and rarely have to decline anyone.
Smiley Faces all around !!

I'm inclined to agree with Sean. (And Paul for that matter) Although nothing's as bad as the eggs they serve in cafeterias. Bleeegh.

Spam is disgusting... super fatty, super salty, uber-processed vaguely meat product... blergh.

SPAM nigirizushi, eh? 100% pork and 20% less salt...yeah, still not feeling it. Speaking of, my old Mac email (is it iCloud now or what?) used to never, ever see spam; we paid $100 annually to be sure of that. Ever since it became free a few years back, it's slowly gotten worse. Now, aside from the hundreds of newsletters I'm too lazy to unsubscribe to, I delete some 15-20 pure spam emails a week... That's without even bothering to check my other email accounts.

Nice Paul, Did my Email or thread help point you in the direction of all the spam on the main site? It's kinda ridiculous I think the last one I check up on was some spam about AIDs awareness or something on my Musashi Review on the main site. I'd be happy to add more of my reviews to the main site but it seems that the enthusiasm for main page reviews was kind of lost shortly after you requested them. Sure it was due to you being busy and all as I know it's taken you awhile to get the site in the shape you want it and are still in the progress of doing so. If you delete all the spam comments on my reviews do I still get to keep the five star ratings they gave me. lol? I feel like a paper champion seeing my rating and then the odd ball advertising comments... lol!

I am guessing Paul you feel a bit like this. Haha, yeah - that's about the size of it! Making reasonable progress chewing and hacking my way through it all..
nddave: Yes indeed, the thread certainly helped convince me to set aside a block of time to tackle it all. The site is actually preparing for long overdue cosmetic makeover (the current theme is more of a placeholder than anything else) and the forum and store will also be getting some extra attention over the next few weeks. Means a few sleepless nights, but it is worth it in the end.. Appreciate any and all feedback like this, helps ensure things always keep moving in the right direction instead of drowing in spam or stuff that doesn't interest anyone but me (like testing shuriken on spam cans..! Lol).
Nearly there, having some issues with some stuff not transferring as it should - gotta love computers (they know best)!

Oddly enough, I'm pretty sure I have that exact same shuriken.
