Hey all! So I still love my Hanwei war sword, but I want a Gladius, and I think I prefer the Mainz pattern, but if anyone can recommend a good gladius/maker that'd be awesome After second review I'd be cool with any pattern Anyone have some experience with this one? www.paulchenhanweiswords.com/roman-gladius-sword/

I have one of those. It's a decent little sword. Not historically accurate by any means but a fun little cutter. Only downside is the round grip makes edge alignment a bit tricky sometimes.

I'm cool with it not being super accurate so long as it is fun and has the "spirit" of the gladius

If you are happy with waiting a little while, deepeka are in the final stages of a new range of gladius swords, which IMO look fantastic! I will be buying one for sure.
I'm not sure if one is the Mainz or fullham though... We will know when they come out at some point this year!

www.customswordshoppe.com/shoppe/product_info.php?cPath=1&products_id=89If you're looking for something with an edge to play with there are a number of different cutters out there. The VA and Kris Cutlery are bottle killers. Kris availability has been an issue over the years because of their rep KoA can't keep them in stock. They aren't classically correct, but the fun factor is immense for both. Deepeeka's have gained a lot of traction with the reenactor/antiquarian practitioners, thus another lineup of their designs. Previous gladii have been decorative but not weapon weight. Albion sword has released their pricey examples so Deepeeka has been pushed to shed the weight on their decorative pieces.

I would have to Ditto what Dave Kelly said. Plus on top of that the scabbards are a lot better looking than the Hanwei.

Ive been wanting a gladius for a while now and does anyone own or have an opinion about the strong blade roman gladius? Sorry I'm not very good with this stuff so no link. I bought a Strongblade Gladius years ago before they started heat treating them. I sharpened it up anyway and did some cutting with it. It's the second one in this vid, starts around .40. I think it's on par with older Deepeeka, tho maybe not as historical as them. In my opinion Strongblade is a good option for a budget gladius. As William said Deepeeka has been upping it's game and I am interested. Strongblade as well has made improvements. Good news for the sword buyer with limited cash I say.
