Jacky of Huawei is THE go-to guy for a good quality custom Japanese sword blade (made in China). And gives a lot of quality for the price. That said, customers ordering custom (non-off-the-shelf) swords must be patient. His customer communications on custom sword orders seem to be cunningly designed to weed out anyone lacking the patience of Job...or was it the Buddha?
On my current custom sword order, I have sent 4 or 5 messages asking to do a part pay over the last est. 4 or 5 weeks. No answer on that. I think I'll find a quiet, private spot and scream.
(but not a public restroom stall least concerned patrons come over and advise me to add more roughage to my diet) RinC

to me it's always seemed as if Jacky gives each customer just so much time to communicate with, then once the sword has been started he moves that email chain out of his inbox and out of his mind until the order is ready. Then one last chance to communicate once it's received.. maybe lol

I can't stand poor customer service. Shows a lack of consideration for the paying customer.

How long do Huawei custom orders normally take?

I can't stand poor customer service. Shows a lack of consideration for the paying customer. I wouldn't call the service poor - on the contrary Jacky is very helpful and accommodating; but it does seem like he maybe has a lot of customers and not enough time

I feel if communication is bad, that puts me off a purchase regardless. I've had issues in the past with poor communication resulting in katanas being lower quality than expected and not what I asked for, even if you try and let them know what you would like to be double checked.
If the rep takes the time to fully understand what you want you are left with no regrets on your purchase wants its arrived.
I believe it's not just myself that Huawei have shipped a sword with errors, so that leaves me very unsatisfied enough to not want the sword I thought I would be getting and selling it on.

Jacky told me my custom sword would be finished in 2-3 days. Well 5 days later.... No word.. that does bug me. I do feel with Jacky's small grasp of English, that if he doesn't quite understand the email, it takes him longer to respond. Use no slang, I found that out.

I have attempted to order custom work from huawei twice and either poor comunication or just put in the too hard basket to deal with have recieved no further contact from them. Rather frustrating, initial messages were looking good and then nothing.

However, you have to realize how promoted this eBay vendor is appreciated around here. I'd imagine he has a LOT more to deal with than just questioners like us. He has people with perfectly described orders paying right now that he needs to deal with.

Custom orders are always going to take longer, remember production forges churn out their production models day in, day out, and they have to go out of their way to do something different with a custom order. It's not like they're sitting around waiting for their next custom order lol! Patience is a virtue :)

Honestly I think there whole vibe is unprofessional and irritates me.
My first experience with them was i found them a couple years ago. I saw a sword I liked and ordered it. Left it for a couple of days while I was looking at there other swords and thinking which others to add to the basket. So I saw another I got a message from eBay saying the seller has banned you from bidding on there items!?
Okay? How much of a arrogant attitude can you take to customers. At the time I laughed it off and messaged them and they pushed my to pay via PayPal. Obviously this is against eBay policy and had I shown them that and opened a case they would have been screwed.
Sword arrived, the hazuya choji and fitting on this were crap on a 450 doller sword. Worse than any other sword I own in this price range tbh and the 'hazuya' polish looks 'false'.
This is my experience anyway. Honestly I don't think the whole package is there and they are developing an ego as if they are better than the customers.
Deal fell through on a custom also. Was told they were buying some 1070 steel then no word. Sent them 10 messages over a week and nothing. Finally I messaged them, 'Are you there stupid idiot' and got a response straight away saying 'am I shi**ing you Chris?'
LOL! Forget them. I'll take my money and invest in other smith's who don't take you for a ride.
Edit - I realise I may have come across abit abrupt with them in my message, but please understand that I had waited weeks without a response. I also had heard similar horror stories in the past due to communication problems which had frightened me and having the run around on eBay. No bad intent aimed at there company. They are just not for me.

Well Jacky just told me my sword is done. So the waiting for the shipping starts.

Mine took about nine days to get from China to my porch. Once you get the actual ship notice its pretty quick. I would advise giving it a couple of weeks. The sword goes from Longquan to one of the larger cities before it gets on a plane. That initial ship out seems to take the bulk of the time.

I have mixed experiences from Huawei. I've placed a few full custom orders such as twin ko-katana, 9260 shobu zukuri blade, full wrap samegawa, and high quality saya (buffalo horn fittings), as well as a beautiful bare blade of shinogi zukuri geometry featuring folded steel and godlike choji hamon, which upon mounting I discovered had killer balance. These purchases were not made through ebay but directly through paypal. I've also purchased four others, some with slight alterations, simply via ebay.
My twin ko-katana took approximately four months, the bare blade came pretty much instantly. So that was all good.
My most recent purchase has not yet been completed, although I ordered it in May of 2014. It was for two 9260 katana with extended tsuka and ko-kissaki, mounted both differently; one fully wrapped in rayskin, the buffalo horn fitted saya, and the other with panel rayskin, without the horn fittings on the saya. I can't help but grow concerned having waited 10 months. I've messaged Jackie for an update through ebay as well as the email provided to make paypal payments (but to little surprise) without response. I couldn't help but notice the Huawei-sword ebay store selection has shrunk dramatically as well. I gave my order in point form and I was assured my order would be completed to my specifications. Time has certainly passed since then. Am I in trouble? What do you guys think?

shishitomoe, I've never ordered a custom sword from Huawei, but don't think you're in trouble... they're finishing off the Chinese New Year, and some workers/companies have started up production again. One of the companies I've contacted many times just emailed me Wed. saying they were ready to start shipping items again. Here's an interesting article I just found: Don't place orders before or right after Chinese New Year

Well, fingers crossed. They've done well for me in the past, so I can't be too negative. As this particular thread indicates, patience is virtue. I only hope the order hasn't been lost. I was looking forward to these pieces

10 months? I would be pestering him, I don't think what you described should take so long.
