I remember reading as a kid about King Richard during the Crusades (i don't remember all of the story so don't hold me to strictly on detail) had a contest where they saw who could cut the head from a camel in a single blow. It came up in memory lately and i was thinking a great cutting test would be to use a dear (dead already of course) and try to make this cut. It would be an impressive demonstration and couldn't be harder than the hip cut that they tested katanas using cadavers of criminals. I know that Cold steel used some meat in their demos but i never saw them do this one. Please, don't think me too morbid, but i think looking at it clinically it would be a great acid test for a blade. -anthony

drm,
I have thought this same thing many times.
There is nothing wrong with your thought train. It is curiousity, and you are not going about it the wrong way. Testing of this nature is the only true way to come close, but I will say that IMO it should only be done on something dead.
There are some that are sensitive to this type of thing on the board, so if you get around to it, please just post a thread with a note to pm you for the results. I will do the same if I happen to get a chance to get out of the house, or off the tractor this year!
Good luck! and again, I personally would be very interested in your results.

thank you, Ric. that is pretty impressive. It's really close to what i was talking about. I have just saw the first part of it so far. I don't hunt so it may be a long time before i am given an opertunity to try the cut. I will always have my antenna up for it, though. one question: are you guys doing your cutting with western blades with a accu-sharp secondary bevel style edge? If so that is pretty impressive to get such a smooth draw cut as i have seen you guys make on the pictures.

Yes, please only do that stuff to dead beings. I consider animals as people & I madly against treating animals in a way you wouldn't treat people. Any word of the contrary and I'll come crashing down on your PM box. Hunt with love in your heart.

Yeah you did, but I thought I'd say it since the topic was up. Cheers.

most people don't know what thoses beasts go through in the slauterhouse. I am not advocating to do it to a live animal by no means but it is at least as humane as how they dispatch them. i have been to a slaugher house before and it is really freaky. exactly right, we do have to eat and they are delicious.

Thanks Kortoso, I found that to be very interesting reading. Almost clinical and not at all repulsive or unpleasant. And it brought back many not unpleasant memories of growing up on a working cattle ranch... Karma for the link.

Meat free since November 2007. Congrats Rammstein, welcome to the club. See, you haven't lost any weight or strength, or grown breasts have you? Look at me, I'm full on vego and I'm like an Aussie Mariusz Pudzianowski (4 times Worlds Strongest Man).

I'm a nice fit 165 and loving it I still love the taste of meat....but I finally realzied that I was living a sort of hypocritical life. I'm not sure I'll always be a vegetarian, it's rather hard, but it's still a fun battle. My apologies for that rather old debate we had . In fact I was going to pm you the news but decided better of it. But I never said I'd grow breasts ;D

Off topic a bit: I don't get why people drink cows and goats milk no worries. But when you offer them to try some milk off a friend whos just had a baby they get all grossed out and won't.
