Saw KC's new stuff at KoA the other day and got super excited. That is, until I saw the closeups. I'm sorry, they're hideous. I miss the old KC.

Agreed, they're not terribly appealing. I saw the Ume katana there too and when I looked at the seppa, I noticed they're the gear type. Not my taste at all.
Across the board for production katana, I wish that chemical fiber ito would not be used.

Yep, I wrinkled my nose at that habaki as well.

Yea its sad, they've never been really applauded for their hilt furniture in the past as the blades are usually what it is regarding KC. But recently all their models seem to have some really ugly cheap fittings. If you really want a KC Tachi I think it's better to get the shirasaya blade and either commission it hilted or DiY.

Well the blade itself is not that nice... Don't like the polish on it and the cosmetic kissaki is horrid.

Ever since KC switched to yet-another-Chinese-forge, after the Philippines shop apparently decided they weren't going to make swords anymore, their katana blades have been very sub-par, always using that ugly "folded" steel that so many cheap pieces of [poo] use, and the aesthetics are just not there. Their old blades were an acquired taste, but at least had some promise after a do-it-yourself polish. Now they just look cheap, low-quality, and overall just not good.
It's a pity, I remember when KC was among the top-dogs in the katana world...

Well the responses made validate my hesitation. I will look elsewhere to get a tachi.

Credit for trying, I was almost there until I saw the closeup shots. If they'd done this with their old forge, it would have been awesome.
Poor KC is at least putting in some effort to stay in the game, but their new forge just isn't holding up for me, personally. I will always regret not buying when I should have.
