How about a section for Chinese -- or at least non-Japanese -- swords??
I think we need one. Anybody else agree???

I would vote in favor of a Chinese section. For one reason or another traditional Chinese swords don't seem to be nearly as popular (at least in the western world) as their Japanese and Euro counterparts, and this may explain the current lack of such a section here. We Chinese sword lovers have tended to post in the "Other Weapons" section (or elsewhere), but now that we have a few more Chinese sword reviews at the main site, and we have Garrett Chan attempting to start up a new Chinese sowrd business, I don't see why we shouldn't have one now. I think interest has risen to where a Chinese section would be warranted.

I agree there are such a variety of Chinese swords/weapons that they should get their own section. The only problem is that getting a decent one can be a real problem especially in the sub $300 however I think that Garrets new business may help to fill this hole in the market.

ha ha obviously I totally agree. It would help me out too so I won't have to revive my threads in the general discussion board and more people could see me under Chinese or Continental Asian swords.

Well, it would seem that a combination of B class grovelling, and a need for a Chinese sword forum have prevailed. Yay! ;D
Should be lots of fun - naturally, so the new forum has some flesh on it - I'm moving this thread to the new board.
Enjoy!

ha ha thx Paul! Somehow I feel this forum will be one of the quieter ones so let's do our best to keep it lively! The Adam Hsu jian are fine for what they are intended for but Hanwei themselves say that their swords are not meant to be cut with.....real swords cut therefore I say Adam Hsu jian are not real swords, but they are fine for most taichi practitioners who don't know about real swords.

What?!! Real swords actually cut things!!! lol No seriously, i agree with you on that one, though they're still nice for practicing forms in your backyard. I could sharpen mine, though i am unsure as to the composition of the steel. I know it's High carbon Spring steel, but i know not of it's heat treatment or it's tempering. GarretC any info on this?

I don't know anything more than what Hanwei provides on their site. However, seeing as the sword is for forms and not cutting I'd say a medium carbon steel like 1045 would be used. Maybe bpogue, the CAS Hanwei rep can elaborate.
