I still have two of these sanmai knives.
I think the seller says 1095 on the mono steel core.
Don't know what the folded sides are of, other than seems softer steel as one would expect.
A good knife for about $25usa.
Decent sheath....comfortable on the belt.
Blade size pretty all-around handy.
Core mono steel is quite hard and a thin mono slab that takes and holds a good edge well.
The two I kept were the best done...better done with only about 1/8" mono core showing on both sides.
Core mono steel can be seen on the back of the blade....vinegar soak/etch helps show it.
The other one was not done as well since the core steel was about 1/2" exposed on one side and hardly showing at all on the other.
So cosmetic q.c. on what must be a hand-done blade is a case of "luck of the draw".
Leather handle fits the hand well and is comfortable.
Small gap between the blade and the forward handle guard...I usually fill in myself for cosmetics reason.
A good, reasonably priced belt knife suitable for about any and all odd jobs.
Though of late, I have been doing low bids on some hard temper D-2 knives which I view as good deals if one can bid around $15.
Underwhelming but adequate sheath...real leather but cheaply done.
Nice wood handle.
Adequately ground D-2 tool steel blades of claimed 60 or so HRC, which I believe (hard steel I find when sharpening)...but blades are fairly thick stock and harder to get as sharp as a thinner blade:
Seller retail about $35usa...so successful bids about $15 give one a good utility/camp knife.
Knives are better than the sheath.
Shipping a bit high at $8.
stores.ebay.com/SilGol-Knives?_trksid=p2047675.l2563I have about 4 of them now...various models...a camp knife, a kitchen style knife, a smaller general hunting knife and their "bowie knife".
Helps scratch my Huawei sword itch while I continue to await my Huawei custom katana, ordered last December.
