I started getting into Rush back in January this year, and a few weeks ago, I finally bought 2112. I've been hooked since. I'll probably be buying Signals or Fly By Night next. Unfortunately, they toured through my area before they were really on the radar for me, so hopefully I get another chance some day!
While my love for Rush is pretty recent, any forumites out there who have been listening longer? What are your favorite songs? Albums? Live experience? Are there other progressive rock bands you guys like?

I have been a fan since the early/mid 80s. I have seen them live many a time in Omaha and Kansas City. Unfortunately Geddy's voice can not replicate the older albums very well. Just can not hit the higher notes. But, they are still a good band to see live. One of my favorites.
Moving Pictures is a great album. Most of their albums are good.

Yes, I like Rush. They took a bit to understand and accept for me when I was a kid. This was the same thing with Led Zeppelin, Lee and Plant have these wild quavering voices, which sounded raw to me when I was young. Eventually I realized that their voices were instruments and added something really cool to the music that I would miss if they were replaced. Very expressive voices. I remember it being a shock to realize that Rush was such a small band- for some reason I had thought there were more people in it. They have such a big sound. I like the complexity, and so other bands like Voivod, Soundgarden, King Crimson, etc (list is too big) appealed to me thanks to Rush. My wife hates Rush. It is just one of those things that I have to forgive. I can listen to Industrial, any sort of dark, livid, grindingly cacaphonic Metal I want... but the Rush? I have to keep that to the headphones or when she is gone. It is a good thing I love her so much. I need more Rush albums. Lately I've been picking up used YES CDs. I missed some of those songs.

I got into Rush back in the early nineties, with the release of Roll the Bones. Still my favourite album. Not the best, but I kinda like it the most. Memories .

Rush is one of my all time favorites.
For some reason I tend to prefer their instrumental ones, like La Villa Strangiatto or YYZ

"Today's Tom Sawyer He gets high on you And the space he invades He gets by on you
No his mind is not for rent To any god or government Always hopeful, yet discontent He knows changes aren't permanent But change is
What you say about his company Is what you say about society Catch the witness, catch the wit Catch the spirit, catch the spit
The world is, the world is Love and life are deep Maybe as his eyes are wide
Exit the warrior Today's Tom Sawyer He gets high on you And the energy you trade He gets right on to the friction of the day"

Been a fan for about 25 years now. Seen'em twice, on the Counterparts tour and Test for Echo tour. Just as good live as on disc. Pick up Hemispheres...GREAT album.

Nice to see some Rush fans out there!
Beowulf, the only Yes song I've ever heard is "I See All Good People". Any albums you really like?

When I was learning to play the drums if you could play Tom Sawyer start to finish you were a drummer. Temple of Syrinx....spirit of radio... all fun drum songs.

Sugiyama: No, all I gravitate towards with them is individual songs. I blame this on radio, and I blame my wanting these songs on disc on radio also... I cannot really listen to radio now, I have a good time until the advertisements come on. The ads now are over-the-top annoying and I generally shut off the radio. Plus, the ads seem to run for 5 straight minutes now.

^^ This! I HATE listening to the radio now because of the obnoxious "radio personalities" and the super long commercials that last longer than the songs.

I have been a Rush fan, since I was around 13 years old. I seen them in concert a couple of years ago.

Oh man, old school Rush is one of my favorites. 2112, Hemispheres, Signals, and Grace under Pressure especially. Saw them in concert from Signals on to Presto. Awesome shows.
