Wow Garrett that looks awsome even with the cheaper fittings! Please do some cutting with it and tell us how it hold up. I am curious as a custom option could you get a sword with a peened tang rather than a threaded one?

Can't wait till I get one! I will have a total of $220 soon, I may be able to get some more money since I have been shoveling my walk without any payment yet. The sword is beautiful, at first I thought the hilt was blank, but when I saw the close up, I was amazed. This is an amazing sword from it's looks, and it's only a proto-type? Can't wait to see the finished product.

musashi yes I can get them peened but I don't recommend it. Sometimes the wood in the sword will shrink due to climate changes and everything will loosen up when that happens. Nuts can always be tightened. well I've had a little time to get acquainted with the sword now (plus it's already tasted my blood lol)... Some approximate measurements: blade length is a little long for a jian at just over 29" from the blade collar. Point of balance: about 4" below the guard Center of Percussion is about 20"-21" below the guard First impressions: the sword is nice and solid. I just came in from some heavier testing (not destructive but it would have exposed any obvious flaws in construction). Medium power chops on an old log. The handle does not jar your hand when taking impact and it provides nice feedback. The edge is still in perfect shape as well. Thrusts into 2 x 4 pieces of wood. Good penetration. Nice and stiff with a little give to the blade. Flex test: quick flex test 5" from true no problem. Dry handling: The sword blade tracks well and feels authoritative in the cut. Excellent point control no problems with that. When I smack the pommel the tip oscillates no more than 1" out of true at high frequency...stiff, resilient, and springy. What I'll get changed: I'm going to shorten the blade length by an inch or two which will make the blade play a bit livelier. The blade was sharpened along the entire length. I will have them leave the section near the guard unsharpened as it's supposed to be. Tatami mats are soaking right now...cutting vids and other vids will be up tomorrow or the day after.

I was wondering, in the future are you going to sell Chinese sabers and/or broad swords? I would totally buy one if you did. But first, I'll need to save my money even more, lol.

How snug is the fit between the scabbard and blade? I really can't wait to get my hands on one of these!

Makadona, I have one in production right now. Haven't you seen the dao fittings I posted earlier?
Musashi, for me it's a bit too tight. Although it's beautiful, Ebony is one nasty wood to work with. It shrunk a bit coming to the dry prairies here. The fit was perfect, but because of the climate problem and customers all over the globe I don't know if I'll be able to stick with the ebony.

I might suggest purple heart? Although, I am not sure how expensive that would be and you are trying for the traditional look, but purple heart is beautiful ![:)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I agree it would look stunning.

Found the checks =D Only $75, but soon, I will have about $300 to spend on a sword. Finally, a real jian, unlike my $40 spring steel one with a resin handle and scabbard XD

The production line is now under review. I've gotten word that material prices have gone up . I also need to decide what to do about the wood issue. I might have to switch down to a softer wood like other production swords since they are more forgiving.
Anyways I promised a video so here it is.

Let me start by saying that I am personally no fan of the Jian whatsoever. That said, this sword is absolutely gorgeous. I want one. Now. Congratulations, you have converted me. Now give me the sword, already. ![:(](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

Garrett: Impressive, although I am a little bit worried about the fact that you are going to switch to a softer wood. You need a dense strong wood for handles and sheaths, there are many options out there and the more unique the option you choose the better I think you product might sell. Anyone can buy your basic black scabbarded jian but what if you used cocobolo? Or bloodwood or something beautiful and exotic? Just food for thought.

I'm not concerned with how fancy or pretty the wood is, as long as it won't break on me and render my sword useless on me.
That aside, I'm concerned that using fancy, exotic wood will only make these things more expensive, but then I'm not sure what wood's going rates are. I'm good with whatever, as long as I can afford it.

I really hate to see the nice woods go but I was told that ebony prices have gone up several hundred %. Other woods will have seen similar increases. There's a reason that those exotic woods aren't seen on sub $300 swords. The manufacturer actually lost money making this sword for me.
I'm only talking about the sub $300. the nice woods will of course be available on the $300+ and customs. I will see how things go though.
