I'm only talking about the sub $300. the nice woods will of course be available on the $300+ and customs. Ah, that would be great then. With sub 300's I still feel that aesthetics are a second to usability. With 300+, then I wouldn't mind prettying it up for a price, since it'd probably end up being displayed more than used anyways.

yeah hardwoods have a tendency to split and deform when going to different climates. My next scabbard will be ray/shark skin wrapped just like the antiques to minimize the problem.

Wow I just saw the video on youtube and I am very impressed ![:)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) , I should have done this a while ago but +1 karma to you Garrett for all your hard work. I’m looking at my cold steel Gim and while it is a great sword it's got nothing on that one of yours. Have you disassembled it to have a look under the hood? I would love to see Paul and/or Scott Rodell do a review on one of these. I know they are a bit more expensive but are you planning on getting a San-Mai blade and doing some testing on it? I would be very interested in seeing the results.

Thanks. I don't think I will disassemble it. I did some heavier testing on very dense wood where the blade was taking all the impact and bouncing off and the integrity seems great. Like all threaded tangs the nut comes loose when taking heavy impact although this can be fixed by using loctite and it's better than a peened tang with shrunken wood. If you look at the pictures of the handle, the copper pin is actually peened over on both sides which complicates things and I still have to demo the sword to some fellas in town.
I did not order a folded/laminated sample so if I do test one I'd have to get one made (another month or 2). I'm too poor to ruin a san-mai right now but they are made to better standards than the monosteel so I'm not worried about them. I just wanted to see what the forge could do with monosteel. The only problem now is the wood!!!!!!!!!

when do you open for buisness 1. when I get details on exactly how much wood prices have gone up. 2. when the nice jian and dao get completely mounted. I've gotten word that it should all be completed before Chinese New Year (2/3 weeks). I'm impatient too but I plan to have some real quality available so the reason for the wait. At this point the da dao is ready for introduction though because they don't suffer from the complexities of the jian and dao.

random: they'll be priced in the high 200's like the better Cheness stuff and the DSA stuff in the SBG store. Will take preorders starting very soon. Takes a couple months to produce and ship to your door.
luke: I hate zinc alloy fittings. I will always use brass or iron.

Hate how shiny the fittings are but hot damn! Those are some very sexy swords, what wood are you currently making them out of? Also will you be selling just the fittings and blades for people who might like to customized their jian with a different wood for the scabbard and handle?
