SHUANG SHOU JIAN! Sorry had a slight keyboard malfunction, too much drool affecting the turning off of the caps lock key. When you make this sword i will definitely buy one, i have always wanted one as they are my favourite sword as well. What are the specifications you are looking at for this one? Now i have to decide whether i wait for the swords you are making or whether i save up and go custom. Decisions decisions! Sorry for hi-jacking ![:D](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) I will shower you in karma when this becomes realized. I haven't really started thinking about the shuang shou jian specs yet. It's also a bit tricky to pick a size when there are barely any surviving antique specimens. I'm thinking a blade around 38" long and a handle at 14" long. I haven't really decided. If you have any specs in mind feel free to let me know.

I too am a big fan of the Shang Shou Jian and would defiantly consider getting one if you bring one out. Another unusual Jian I quite like is the snake tongue Jian (Sorry I can't remember it's Chinese name), have you considered doing one of those or a Han style Jian?

Garrettc: For the Shuang Shou Jian, i would think that the specs from the one from crouching tiger hidden dragon would be best. The measurements are if i remember correctly a 33 inch blade and a 13 inch handle. Whilst the Shuang is a big sword it is not an overly huge sword, which i am sure you already know. Much as i would love a shuang at the moment, just concentrate on what you are doing and let things flow naturally. I don't care what kind of swords you release because i know that you are passionate about this and that you will only accept the best. I will pretty much buy any sword you come up with at this point in time as i am that hungry for a good chinese sword. Whether it is a jian or a sabre when you get this going and when i have a bit of money i will be buying one as you seem like a very trustworthy guy with a passion for quality chinese swords, something that is very hard to come by in todays market.

One is a monster and has a 46.75" blade with a 16" handle and the other has a 32.25" blade and 7.75" handle. This is why I find it difficult to choose a size...with only 2 specimens and such a big gap in between. It will be a lot of interpretation, but your specs certainly sound plausible. musashi, concerning the snake tongue jian it would work the same as the shark tooth jian that wraith was talking about a page or 2 ago. Those exotic designs won't be coming out for a while until I'm either more established or can find a group of people willing to buy. You could always order a custom through me though. For the Han jian, I love them and they've become explosively popular recently thanks to Zheng Wu. It depends on how well my other models sell before I can put the money back in to produce new models. I am not a rich man after all and this is 1 of 2 business ventures I am pursuing right now (although by far the more exciting one).

Edit: OMG! I just realized that your in Edmonton, I live just outside of there! This is great! This just made my day, lol

Garrett are you using Qing-Zhong to manufacture your swrods? I just found them and they had the 3 sample Jians you had in the first post. I have seen some of their higher end stuff and it looks really good.

I am indeed. As of now, the site is under construction and the stuff on there is strictly older low end stuff though. They are transitioning to better quality stuff, so they won't be the same.

Garrett: I've been thinking about the shuang and i think i might've come up with a possible solution, why not take a middle of the road approach to its length? Why not go 8" handle and a 40" blade that way you are half way between the measurements or even 40" blade and a 10" handle, however you don't want to have it too large and i think anything over about 48" is unwieldy. The other issue with the Shuang is Australian shipping laws, anything over 42" wont get into the country which is kind of stupid.
Another thing, if we want to get your swords in something other than monosteel, will there be a custom option for such things?

the monosteel swords will probably be in the mid high $200 range.
the next step up is 10,000 layer san mai lamination which costs around $7xx
there is also a single row twistcore lamination in the high $6xx's
if you're willing to there is also gold inlay and a lot of fancy stuff that can get to $10,000 but PM me for that stuff since this forum focuses on sub $300...

It would take me forever to get that much money. I only get $40 a month at the moment (don't have a job, but really want one)

Well, I got a delightful Christmas present in my email inbox today. I just got the pictures of the fittings on the dao that will be reproduced. I am astounded by the quality, doesn't look like sub $300 to me all made of iron with white brass inlay. (silver inlay at additional cost ![;)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ) credit goes to the incredibly talented artist working in the factory...on Christmas Day/Eve? ![](http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc4/gic102/QingFittings004.jpg) ![](http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc4/gic102/QingFittings001.jpg) MADE IN CHINA

Certainly very fine work. Very, very nice. I don't know much about daos (okay I know nothing about daos) but I might have to find a way to pick up this one, if the entirety is of this level.

Ok, I am soooo happy. I got $200 from birthday and Christmas money put together! So I probably just buy it straight away instead of doing multiple payments.
EDIT: I lost 2 checks worth $100, but I will find them!

How the hell do you lose that much money?! Damn it Garrett now I really have to get a job so I can afford the shinies that you are coming out with and I too am astounded by the quality, Hanwei has nothing on what it looks like you will be producing. You will sell like hotcakes I reckon my friend. Are the monosteel blades still going to be in the mid to high 200s? I am not so much into dao, I am waiting to see your jian and hoping against hope that it isn't gaudy, although coming from you I think I can safely bet that it will be exquisite. P.S: Ok where are you ripping off these antiques? Which museums have you been hitting? ![:P](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) They look that good

lol @ Makadona. Hold on to your money for a bit, I don't need it yet. but don't lose those checks! ![:P](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) @ bloodwraith, the monosteel prices probably won't change. If I raise them then they will be out of reach of everyday collectors and martial art practitioners which completely defeats my mission. If I lower them then I will be selling the swords out of my cardboard box home. You're right though, I cannot see Hanwei coming close to this. But keep in mind that the people we use are primarily a custom forge. Those fittings beat out everything in my own collection besides my Zheng Wu Han jian which costed me $1000. The dao came from an antique in this book: www.chinesearms.com/swordbook/swordbook.htmyou can buy it for $58 off ebay. It's a ripoff but I need it lol. P.S. what do mean by gaudy? Would the wax models of jian fittings I posted earlier in the thread qualify as gaudy? I think they are intricate but not gaudy...

No the wax model is exquisite and you give me a lot of hope that I might finally be able to afford a beautiful chinese jian and hopefully a shaungshou when you get around to them. Those fittings kick arse and you are doing us all an amazing service by getting these swords made. I don't know about the rest of the guys but I will not only thankyou for all of this I will definitely be purchasing a few at some point in the not so distant future. The workers are doing a breath taking job, which makes me wonder why do your weapons and fittings look so beautiful and your blades so affordable and yet hanwei are not producing anything even close to this? I mean they have the money and the influence right?
