I read that ronin katanas are supposed to be some of the toughest and most indestructible katanas. Then I go on youtube to see a durability test and the comments are riddled with comments saying ronin are a bunch of cheap chinese-made crappos. Is this true? I realize they're not traditional katanas, but does ROnin have a bad wrap? I bought the dojo pro model 16 btw. Afraid that I just blew 275 bucks (which is a LOT considering I'm still a college bum).

I don't think ronin is "chinese-made crappos"; While it's not the best katana from China you can buy, it's not a crap for sure... you can get a lot of worse in ebay It should be pretty tough; I personally prefer other brand but Ronin should be a decent choice and far from crap

Don't worry about it you will see internet commando putting down any product, even Albion. The dumdasses probalby don't have the sword or even held one.

Ronin's are pretty solid. Just watch the videos and you'll see. Jason brutalizes his, and Mark Kaden Ridgeway tests several different models to failure. The results are pretty impressive. I have a Dojo model(one of the TH 1045 models that are no longer in production) and it has held up very well against some pretty dismal cutting performance.

For the price, Ronin Katana products are decent.

Just remember that one man's crap is another's model of perfection Having said that, I agree with the other comments that the RDP is worth just about what you paid for it. While there might be some better for a similar price, you can't really ask for that much more for $275. In this instance, "you get what you pay for" works out in a good way, provided everything on your sword is in healthy condition. Once you've owned and cut with more swords, you will form your own opinion on the value of these katana but until you do, remember that tastes and opinions differ, especially about swords, lol. You can check out my review on the RDP katana here

Who cares what the YouTube comments say? You have the Katana in hand. Who would make a better judge of your sword than you yourself? I'm not trying to be a jacka**, but if you are having "tinges of regret" because of what you see in the comments section on YouTube, I think you should go back and check out the reviews that led you to that Katana to begin with. Now that you have it, were the reviews accurate? There are plenty of Ronin owners on this forum who are very happy with their Katanas. I don't think you wasted your money at all, but ultimately, you are the only one who can truly decide that. Write up a review and post it here. Let us know what you think of your Ronin.

What model did you get? If it's a DP, then it'll suit your basic backyard cutting just fine. They're not my cup of tea (I prefer a faster more agile blade), but they're nothing to totally regret buying.

Nah luckily the sbg store was pretty quick about canceling the order. i guess I really wanted a spring steel katana more than anything. So at this point i"m hovering between a hanwei raptor or a dynasty forge musha 1060.

Ah. I misunderstood. I thought you already received the sword. I think you will be happy with either of your choices. I have a Raptor and DF Musha. I really can't decide which one I like better. They are both fantastic cutters, but very different swords. Either way, enjoy it when you get it.

They are both decent swords from what I've read online.
That's another +1 to SBG Store customer service, in my opinion.

The Hanwei TacWak has a plasma coating to inhibit the development of rust. The Ronin does not. Any bare carbon steel that has been used to cut any kind of acidic fruit, vegetable or plant will develop rust, and pretty quickly. I did something siilar with a sword of mine and had to use the high grit paper and polishing paste. The paper and Mothers Mag can be found at most auto part stores.

WOW...just wow, my theories are true. here's the pics of the mune i received straight out of the box from Ronin Swords on the Ronin Dojo Pro #18. if you cant tell from pics, it looks like a workshop file was taken to both mune edges for approximately 6 inches starting one inch from blade tip. my saya is loaded with sawdust and wax, and i deem it unusable. is this bland enough? You would be happy with a Raptor as they are spring steel rather than spring tempered.

Spring steel vs spring tempered makes very little actual difference imho. I think the quality of the workmanship and heat treat are more important. I've put sets in a blade that was "spring steel". It was a dh blade and bending or taking a set is what it's supposed to do rather than breaking/snapping. It doesn't really matter what the steel type is as much as if it was tempered well.

I`ve been wanting a katana for some time now and i guess i did my homework. Never seen a bad review of raptor anywhere. Actually placed an order from kult of athena few hours ago. A shobu zukuri raptor. My 1st choice was a katana but it`s not in stock and couldn`t find a used one.
