Disclaimer: This has nothing to do with Cas Iberia, I'm writing it like a advertisement just to make it different and more fun. The sword in question is a old HW Bushido that I customised, I have addressed some of the issues a lot of owners had with this particular sword.
NEW 2014 BUSHIDO KATANA
Product Description
This is one of Cas Iberia's most prestigious models well within the medium to high end production swords. This new version of the Bushido follows the old theme by following the Bushido theme. But the previous model's fittings was a love or hate affair, hence the update to new (old) edo fittings (all hand carved) the tsuba is a open work piece with a old wise-man in his estate. The level of detail in the tsuba is astounding with the leaves and details of the roof and plants, there's plenty of gold ascents in the piece. Following the main theme the sword has edo fuchi and kashira that portray a famous story in the Gempai War: story as follows-
"In a celebrated incident, the Taira, hoping to make their enemy waste arrows, hoisted up a fan on one of their ships and challenged the Minamoto to test their archery skill on it. A certain Nasu Munetaka, a young and diminutive warrior known for his skill with a bow, was summoned and Yopoopsune ordered him to make a try at the fan. Determined to hit the fan or commit suicide if he failed, Nasu rode out into the water and loosed a humming arrow, shattering the fan - much to the delight, we are told, of Minamoto and Taira alike."
This fuchi & kashira was chosen as it has a great story and the level of detail in the workmanship is second to none. The edo menuki are a pair of male & female dragons hand carved out of brass, the orb and ken tail is very detailed as is the scales on both dragons.
High quality same is colored black as to draw out the edo fittings and ito, by having a black background everything else will stand out a lot more and it's beauty and details is easier to see with the naked eye. The ito is Japanese silk dyed and woven using the same processes as used in the feudal period, with a weave that is specifically designed for binding swords.
Tsuka core is now rikko and no longer "axe like" shape, this makes the sword more comfortable when held properly and is easier on the hands/fingers your pinky fingers will love you for it. Combined with silk ito the tsuka is now a dream to hold and wield.
New innovative clear perspex seppa has been used to give the sword uniqueness and a hint of class, this makes the overall tsuka and fittings more beautiful and fits in nicely with the edo fittings.
Blade is still K120C as this is a tried/tested and true sword steel. Hada and hamon pops out nicely with this steel, combined with the strong acid wash the details of the forging process on the steel is easier and without a doubt has been done. With the strong acid wash the frost is too strong and dulls some of the details in the steel, hence 20-40% of the frost has been removed which brings back some of the natural details in the steel.
