Hi. First off let me just say that im new to the antique sword market and dont now to much about them. So what im looking for is a sabre, i've been looking at windlass and coldsteel's sabres but looking at them i think i want a antique. Correct me if im wrong but cold steel seems to be too heavy and over priced and windlass have no distal taper and for around the prices of the cold steel sabres i've seen a few nice loking antique sabres. So can anyone give me some help and advice on these two sabres ive found. There both German and from the WW1 era and both cost £225, im assuming for that price there not going be that good but i like the looks of them. Thanks. The one with the scabbard is an ,, Officers Extra '' sabre, not for actual line use. More a ,, doing the town '' sabre, as can be seen by the fragility of the blade. The top one is an ,, Extra '' sabre too, though for the Mannschaft. Sometimes these sabres with etchings were given to retired buddies. The scabbard is missing, so it will not be of great value in the market and as such it is over priced. If I were you, I would hold on to my money and look around more. Europe is awash with sabres, it is a buyers market. For 400 Euro's you can have a pre WWI production, which will be better made and even a very good French one. It is much ,, take your pick '' in this class. Almost anything under that amount will get you stuff like this. As a rule think twice about war time production sabres. Those are mostly inferior.
Cheers.

Not too many German state swords that are more than totems post 1890. Blade is like 5/8th inch wide.
As Paul said, I wouldn't buy one of these without a scabbard, value is halved unless its for an elite unit.
Do better on ebay with some patience.
