I recently received these project update pics from Ernie at Yeshua's and just had to share. I sent Ernie some Gabon Ebony and asked him to whip up a set of fantasy styled scabbards for my Fable wraith set, and this is the stage their at with him now. Freshly carved and first coat of oil applied. They are still waiting for the blackened furniture to be truly complete, but I can honestly say that these just blew me away! After seeing the burl wood used to make the gladius for ChrisPeroni, i had thought i made a mistake with my choice of wood, but after seeing these pics, I'm sure i made the right choice. I am truly impressed with his abilities, as the slabs i sent were barely big enough to work into scabbards(and the grip for the dagger), but somehow he managed to add alot of contour and character from what I can tell. I was going to wait until all my project have been completed to post, but after seeing the pics, i just had to share .

Awesome... looks a lot better on the dagger tho, where it matches the grip very well.

sadly, i have to agree with you Sean. I'll wait till I have them in hand to make a decision, but a new grip for the sword might just be worth it. I'm pretty sure Ernie used some of the cutoff from the sword scabbard to make the grip on the dagger, but i'm not completely sure. Either way, I'll agree that the dagger looks alot more like it was meant to go that way. I was really surprised at how "brown" and kinda milky the gabon ebony got when he worked into it. I was expecting a much more black appearance than this, as the ebony was supposed to be AAAA grade "deep black". The slabs were blacker than the ace of spades in anchor seal, but i find myself loving the warm smoky color of the milky part with the brown. My original intention was to do the scabbard of the sword in the black and white ebony, but pieces like the grip with the inky black lines were so hard to find that i finally gave up. I had carved my own grip for the dagger too, but somehow that must have found its way into the garbage when my uncle cleaned the shop whilst i was outta town. But the point is that Ernie is just simply "crushing" these projects like a champ.

I prefer the longsword grip - very dark looking but not just a grey blotch. All is excellent though!

Aw man. I have a feeling that by the time Ernie finishes work on my project he's going to be so popular I won't get a chance at another commision for a couple of years. That's some unbelievable craftsmanship!

Yep, Ernie has done some beautiful work on those scabbards and finishing the dagger grip. I'm happy to have his contribution to flesh out my swords. Can we see how the dagger ended up?

Absolutely Brenno. I just have to wait till I have them in hand again to get some glamour shots. I'm curious to see how the dagger feels after being finished.
