Is the final/factory polish of albion's sword really made with a scotch brite ultra fine pad (7448) ? I've read a couple of forums thread about it, and i know albion's website recommend to use a scotch brite ultra fine pad for retouching the blade.
I just find it a little strange that albion really use that stuff to achieve the beautiful polish of their blade.
I would like to retouch a small portion of the blade on my Crecy where there is some minor and superficial marks on the polish. it's a small area located in the fuller at the base of the balde, and its the result of friction with a piece of plastic.
I'm wondering if i should try to retouch it. I only want to retouch it if i can acheive the very same polish as the rest of the blade.

I have done exactly what they recommend with light oil and a gray scotch brite pad with very good results. Go along the length of the blade though, not side to side or circles. The oil really reduces any scratching or over polishing as well, so if you're concerned, definitely use the oil. You may not even notice much of a change. Its pretty slight I feel.

Last good word I heard on the subject was that albion takes their blades up to near-mirror polish, and then knocks them back down with a grey scotchbrite. I've done retouching on my Albions with grey scotchbtite and it's always blended beautifully. If you buy one new from albion they usually ship it with a scotch brite and care instructions.

These aren't like kitchen scrub pads - these are used all over for fine finishes - like when polishing wood etc.

that's interesting, has anyone ever opted to keep their blade at the mirror polish? It surely must be quite lovely, not that there's anything wrong with the standard satin finish.

Thx for your replys. I ordered a pad of 3m ultra fine 7448 scotch brite. I Tryed it on my albion crecy and knight. I must say im very impressed with the result. It worked like a charm. I managed to get rid of the little scratched and scuffs that were annoying me. Polish is just perfect and it blend naturally with the factory polish. No difference at all. Nobody could tell i retouched this blade.
This 3m 7448 pad is a very handy tool to have !
