Let's do it like this: STEP 1: Post the list of vendors you know to this thread. Tell what kinds of swords, where the vendor is located, link to web pages etc. example: Europe, Finland: Lamnia (Japanese, European, Chinese, Fantasy) [Hanwei, Cold Steel, Zombie Tools] - Also lots of knivesSTEP 2: Demonskull will gather them to one clear compiled list to another thread. You can find the list here: Vendor Sword ListThanks! Original post:
Tell me if this already exists, I just thought it would be a great idea to list all sword vendors in one place. It would be cool if everyone listed all the vendors they know here. Since we have people from all around the world, I thought It could be smart to list first the continent then the country and then the vendors list.
Here's a poor start or example of the list:
*Europe:
__Finland: ____Rautaportti.fi ____Lamnia.fi ...
__UK: ____oriental-weaponry.co.uk ____customkatana.co.uk ...
*North America ...
*Australia ...
And so on...
I know the list would be really long, but that's a good thing right!
Side note: Also it would be cool if there'd be some sort of rating system for them, but that's secondary.
Thank you.

Might I suggest a slightly different format:
type of sword:( Euro, Middle Eastern, Oriental, Custom ), Country or Continent, Name of Company and website
There should not be any critiques or comments attached to the listing. Anyone interested in researching a particular vendor/company should do a search for reviews and critiques of their quality, timeliness and Customer Service.
Anyone could list them here and then one person could cut and paste them in alphabetical order in their category. The new thread could then be stickied.

Second that with the country of origin at the end so we can scroll down looking for the locals

Agree - One person maintaining it. Mods could delete posts after the information has been moved into the main list.

Sounds good. We could gather the information here since this thread already exists. Are the mods willing to move the information to the main list? Or is it possible that users could update the main list? I feel a little bit responsible for this thread so I can also update the list to the OP. But I'm quite busy these days so I'm not sure when I have the time. Mods feel free to modify the list the way you feel best. Great that you are inspired by this.

I have enough currently maintaining the review index to keep me busy.
I would seriously recommend a general member put together and maintain the vendor main list.

I'd be willing to maintain it. I'd just need to have a mod sticky it after it's started and approval to make the updates.

Once it is started I will sticky it. You can edit the main post as the original poster. I don't think there is a limit on the number of times a post can be edited.

"Once it is started..." I thought I started this already, no? I made this thread so the vendors could be listed here. But yeah, nobody's really taken the bait yet, so I guess this could be just the draft version of the list. If you believe it's smarter to open another one, it's ok. Main thing is to get all the vendors under the same roof. I would really like to make the list, but I have to be realistic and admit I wouldn't have the time to do it. So thanks demonskull for volunteering. Hope we can get everyone on the forum inspired by this!

For it to be done right, it should be the only post in the thread with additions deleted after being moved into the main post. If not, it could end up being pages of links and comments that most people would not want to navigate.

Yeah, you are right.
I just feel like this idea is my baby and I must take good care of it and keep it out of harm's way.
But seriously, let's do it the way you suggested. I believe it's the right one. Thanks.

I think this is a good idea. However I'll just want to point out that most likely there will be hundreds of entries to this thread. I think I have hundreds of links stashed in various bookmarks, and I guess many other forumites have so as well. So just to make it easy at first, I'll start with couple vendors from Finland that mainly deal production swords. There are so many custom smiths around the world that it'll take a lot of time to list them. There will be Company with hyperlink (I try to link the English page and directly on sword section if possible), types of swords sold in (), some biggest brands they offer in [], some additional data after -. Teräasekeskus (Japanese, European, Oriental, Fantasy, Knives, Axes) [Hanwei, Cold Steel, Ryumon, Ten Ryu, WKC] - Has a lot of brands I did not list in the above selection. They have the largest selection of swords in Finland. Rautaportti(European) [Windlass] - Finnish retailer of Windlass offerings Oulun Työstökeskus (their English page does not feature swords) (Japanese, European, Chinese) [Hanwei, Valiant Armoury, Longquan made swords] - Has quite a bit of variation in their offerings but mostly Hanwei Lamnia(Japanese, European, Chinese, Fantasy) [Hanwei, Cold Steel, Zombie Tools] - Also lots of knives Kendoshop(Iaito) [Tozando] - If I remember correctly their iaito come from Tozando, JSA stuff Oulun Miekkailutarvike(European) [Pavel Moc, Peter Regenyei, Darkwood Armoury] - HEMA stuff I thought these would be the vendors in Finland that most intrest the forumites.

I think the best way to do this would be a wiki style page where people can edit/add as needed (trusted member - with minimum post/etc) Or if we keep this format, maybe start something less ambitious first? How about listing all of forge/maker instead of reseller? That should be smaller list than reseller... It also would highlight some of the less known makers... Finding production is easy (Kult of Athena, everyone? )... but finding custom forge/togishi/scabbard maker/cutler is harder in my opinion...

I think it's not too ambitious. Many of the members already have lists of vendors book marked so after they post it here, it a simple matter to transpose it or just copy it. All we need are member to continue to post their lists.

Let's not make this too complicated. Let's do it like this: STEP 1: Post the list of vendors you know here. Tell what kinds of swords, where the vendor is located, link to web pages etc. (follow e.g. Jussis example) example: Europe, Finland: Lamnia(Japanese, European, Chinese, Fantasy) [Hanwei, Cold Steel, Zombie Tools] - Also lots of knives STEP 2: Demonskull (or I) will gather them to one list here or to a new thread. (Eventually there will be one clear compiled list.) STEP 3: Mods will sticky it when it's ready. OK? So now, start posting everyone! (I would start by posting my list, but Jussi already posted all Finnish vendors. )

I think that this is great idea. As many people do not know how many vendors there are out there. Maybe we should have this thread solely for vendors and then another one for custom smiths? Like I said earlier there will be a huge list once we have finished listing all the vendors we know as community. Here are 20 entries from the UK, I'll try to list them alphabetically. Barringtons Swords(Japanese, European) [Hanwei, John Lee, Fudoshin, Koto, Citadel, Cold Steel, GDFB] Blades and Bows(Japanese, European, Archery) [Koto, Masahiro, Ryumon, Ten Ryu, John Barnett] Blades UK(Japanese, European, Oriental, Fantasy, Knives, Axes) [Hanwei, Cold Steel, Koto] Cold Steel UK(Japanese, European, Chinese) [Cold Steel] Custom Katana(Japanese, European, Chinese) [Hanwei, Imperial, Thaitsuki, Custom Katana] Elite Samurai Swords(Japanese) [Hanwei] Hunters Knives & Swords(Japanese, Fantasy) [Koto] Imperial Swords(Japanese, European, Chinese) [Hanwei, Darksword, Masahiro, Bushido, Zhejiang Zhengs, Rittersteel] Katana Mart(Japanese) [YarinoHanzo] Koto Katana(Japanese) [Koto] Kusanagi Swords(Japanese) [Kusanagi] Medieval Arms(European) [Deepeeka] Medieval Weaponry(European) [Hanwei, John Barnett Oriental Weaponry(Japanese, Chinese) [Hanwei, Ronin, Cheness] Pieces of History(Japanese, European, Chinese) [Hanwei] Real Sword(Japanese) [Ryansword or some very similar Longquan vendor] Southern Swords(Japanese, European) [Darksword, Deepeeka, GDFB, Hanwei, Jin Forge, Skyjiro, Windlass] Sword UK(Japanese) [Ryansword or some very similar Longquan vendor] Sword Web Shop(Japanese) [Masahiro, Musashi] The Knight Shop(European, Japanese, Chinese) [Windlass, Hanwei, Deepeeka]
