I have been dreaming of this sword for several years now. It's an ahistorical take on a gladius... I have this whole back story and explanation which I can get into once it's all done. For now check out the beautiful maple burl wood, bone grip, and general in-progress swordly goodness! As you might expect, Ernie of Yeshua's Sword has been excellent and is a pleasure to deal with. I can't hardly wait for the next update pic!

I've been talking to him about doing a gladius in burl as well. I'd love to see more pics.

this is the best pic so far. Once the wood has Ernie's finishing treatments it will be exquisite The guard will be getting an engraved brass plate added to each side - which will obscure much of the wood on it. But never fear- the scabbard will more than make up for that! lol!

What will the scabbard be made from?

Funny I'm gonna go with burl for my gladius too. Did he do the blade or is it from albion?

i'm surprised we havent seen more spalted type woods from Ernie. His finishing would really make some inky black lined spalted maple look spectacular. Well Chris, fwiw, I'm waiting on 3 projects from Ernie too, and i gotta say, it really is almost the same giddy, gonna pee my pants feeling as i used to get when I was a kid the week before Christmas. Every time I look at his page, i notice something else that just makes me wanna have em all!!

Is there any question or doubt that Ernie is the man? I don't think so...

I think the next piece I go for will use quilted spalted maple for the grip and scabbard.
It's the Albion Mainz bare blade
Yep - he's the man.
What three projects?

Currently Ernie is making a solid ebony scabbard w/steel throat and chape for my Fable Wraith Blade. To go with it he's doing a carved ebony grip with ring spacer for my Fable Morgul dagger (MarrowThorn)and an ebony scabbard to match the sword. Lastly he is creating my design take on ORCRIST, from start to finish (Blade, guard, pommel and spacer) Once we're through the holidays, We've been discussing a Greatsword that will be representative of the blade from ArcAngel Michael. This one wont happen till some time in 2014, but you know how it goes. Based on his initial timeframe, the Sword/Dagger set should be done real soon. It'll be a couple/few months for the Orcrist to be completed, so I can honestly relate to your excited anticipation. Working with Ernie is sooooo easy. He's had no issues whatsoever with my designs, I thought he'd hesitate with my take on the Orcrist blade, but nope. Couldn't be happier at all. I love seeing the other stuff like your gladius coming outta the shop as it really gives me a chance to see that everything that rolls out his doors looks fantastic.

I was always planning on doing an arch angle sword. What does your design for orcrist look like? I had brenno do mine.

I have yet to get work done by Ernie but I did get a chance to meet him a few weeks ago, and you would be hard pressed to find a nicer guy. He really is an artist. Blew my mind with some of the stuff he had in the shop. Sorry if that was slightly off topic OP just wanted to let you know. Also I truly look forward to seeing your sword completed.
