Full disclosure: I do not work for the company selling the stones, nor practice the type of Iai in the vidsI found a set of water stones and the (general) instructions on how to correctly polish a sword with them. Just thought I'd pass on the info to others who might be interested. www.namikawa-ltd.co.jp/english/shopping/polishing_kit.htmlI'm also posting a vid series/documentary about traditional katana polishing/JSA on Youtube for your perusal/study/entertainment. Pt 1 (intro to being a togishi) Pt 2 (great job showing how to get crisp lines on kisake with a geometric yokote) Pt 3 (JSA & more about being a togishi)

Have some karma for the effort I was just thinking about this question this week, so this is timely info. I have a couple stones but have been reluctant to use them on any of my swords because I didn't want the results to be worse than the starting point  Here's another reference for everyone too: Hazuya for beginners

45,000 yen = $452.00? Yikes! don't suppose there are any polishing kits that aren't as pricey? Ah, that's an excellent reference site, thanks for posting the link!

I'm sure there are other less pricey kits, but was too lazy to look for/post links. I've seen some advertised on a couple of website for under $50, but I'm leary of such a low price for quality stones, seeing as they usually run $30-100 a piece for synthetics. Here's a 5 piece set (3 stones plus 2 other pieces) that looks promising at only $139.95 www.chefknivestogo.com/3pcstoneset.html

That shocking price is actually a pretty good deal considering the stones they are including. This is actually a discounted price for them due to being a special package deal.
I have actually posted the same link a few times on SBG, on the other versions of the forum.
Yes of course there are some cheaper stones you can get, and I have yet to afford this set myself. But this is great deal for stones to do a proper polish on a sword. I do hope one day to be able to buy this or a similar set. For now I will have to make due with my Work Sharp sharpener, my few Norton stones, and sand paper.
