Look at the blade geometry on that cutting machine.

That is the second sword I've seen with such crazy fullering; the first was on an absolutely monstrous quadara I found on Oriental Arms some time last year (has it really only been a year?). Here it is with a normal sized kindjal for comparison: Coincidentally, this sword is also (likely) of Persian origin.

...Without the other, that would look completely normal. My brain is convinced it is, and the other is just a miniature. Very nice, either way.
I love the fullering; not sure if it would impact cutting in any way at all, but it sure looks good. I've seen a bit of odd engravings in various blades, but wacky fullers are always good fun.

Just came across an interesting piece on Oriental Arms. I haven't been browsing sword sites lately, trying to not fall prey to temptation, but I gave in and had a quick look at some favorites. I wouldn't really say this piece is particularly "sexy," per se, but the idea does some things for me that it probably shouldn't. Also, I'd forgotten about Vincent's huge quadara a few posts up and am now convinced this one-ups it. oriental-arms.com/item.php?id=5931

Wow... Just saw this thread for the first time, some really great swords. Although I'm with Luna on this and nothing beats a good hand in a half for me. The sexiest sword to me is the Albion Crecy. There's just something about it that really does it for me. I just keep making the mistake of spending money on other swords and haven't purchased it yet. But one day I will own one.

Choppers, a la the maciejowski bible things, and dadaos. They're so axe-like and ogrish. Everything else by comparison just looks......civilized.

So, I happened to be looking at khybers over on Oriental Arms and stumbled across this beast: It's listed as "The Longest Khayber Sword Ever" and I believe them; see that one on top? Yeah, that one is a more "common" piece with a blade length of 29". The monster below it sports a 47" blade, resting at 56" overall. But that aside, that's not why I decided to post it. I wanted to share the absolutely stunning etchwork this blade sports (which even covers the spine):

I've been ogling that one for months, going for over three grand, though. Speaking of crazy things found on Oriental Arms, check out this thing: oriental-arms.com/item.php?id=6069I have no idea what it is, but I want it.

Funnily enough, I saw that about 10 minutes after I posted the khyber and considered posting it simply for how weird it was, but then i went to do something else and forgot all about it.

Oriental Arms always seems to get the best of the wacky stuff, and most of it sells off very quickly. For instance, I hadn't checked in ONE WHOLE DAY and I come back to find a good seven new items listed, two of which that caught my eye had already sold. oriental-arms.com/item.php?id=6102oriental-arms.com/item.php?id=6096I didn't even get the pain of knowing how far out of my reach the asking price was. Then there's this thing: oriental-arms.com/item.php?id=6090I can afford it...but...what IS it? They've got some nice yatagans up, too. Prices aren't unreasonable, either; they're good-looking pieces. I'm sorely tempted by the piha kahetta they have up, but I can't spare the asking price of nearly $800 right now, but what a pretty knife: oriental-arms.com/item.php?id=6089

I was just browsing Oriental Arms again, and noticed somebody bought that huge Kyber. AND, that weird triple-bladed thingy got put up in "Spotlight" and somebody bought it, too. I wish I had that kind of money to throw at anything, never mind swords.

www.myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic ... sc&start=0 The second sword Peter posted in that thread (the one with the egg-like pommel) is possibly the sexiest sword I have ever seen.

Not bad, that one. Not really grabbing me, but I like where it's going. Were I looking for a "Euro" sword I'd probably spring for one very much like that. I don't remember whether this one's been linked already, but I just saw it (again?) while browsing about: armsandantiques.com/18th-c-ottom ... lade-is784 To return to the brief theme of "Weird African Stuffs," I just found this thing on another vendor I keep forgetting about, and thought it was interesting: ashokaarts.com/shop/lovely-large ... -the-congo I am a strange mixture of saddened and relieved to say that I lost the bid on this earlier today: www.ebay.com/itm/281275897003?ss ... 1423.l2649 It had been $350 for three days, I bid it up to $375 in the last two minutes just for kicks, in the last 30 seconds it hit $385 and stayed there for me until I refreshed the page once more right at the very end. Way out of my current budget, but then so was $375.

That African blade you posted is called a mabele, not sure on the country of origin.

Haven't seen/heard "mabele" before, the site calls it a ngambe/ngombi; says it's from the Congo. Not sure if it's still going by "The Republic of" these days or not, but the sword is listed as 19th century which long predates any recent naming, maybe even predating "French Congo" to us, but I don't think the locals really care too much one way or another for what we call it now. :? Still, it's a very interesting sword, and looks very well made. I'm tempted by it, but can't spare the meager sum they're asking for.
