Well, it looks like a very elongated spaulder. talbotsfineaccessories.com/books/spaulder-tn.JPGThey only cover the shoulder however. I'm pretty sure that something like that has never existed historically. I think it would make lifting the arm difficult for one...

The ones I linked to? No. Not heavy at all.
The one that skinny twig boy is wearing? Probably quite a bit heavier.

you know, that wold not be hard to make. An angle grinder a drill, hammer with something to beat on.....some rivets and 2 or 3 strips of leather. i bet you could make that from scratch in 3 or 4 hours. As for weight, my spaulders, made of 16 guage, which cover collar bone, shoulder, and most of bicep only weigh a couple of pounds each, and a lot of the weight is supported by your soulder when your arms are stretched out. Seems to me i saw something like this on e-bay under Roman Segmented armor. Try searching "medieval armor" on e-bay and see what comes up.

Hmmmm... DO you have to work with soft steel then harden it?

hardening is not imperitive. none of my sstuff is, but it would make it stronger. if you use 16 - 14 gauge cold rolled, it should be tuff-e-nuff

Hmmmm, is this type of steel easy to work with? If so I may make one... Wait... How much would you sell one similar to the one in the picture I provided? (Or website anyway).

if i was to make a pair for you, or do you just want one? depends on how much the materials were. you know theres a few things i want to make for myself so if i get a few sheets of steel....i dunno $75-100 bucks for a pair. PM me if your interested and we'll talk *edit* that would be for 16 guage....the depeeka ones would only be 18 guage which would bend easily.

Yet easier to shape means easier to bend. The closest historical reference I can think of would be the Roman Manica. The tricky part of this kind of project is lots and lots of articulation.

Thats why after you make it, you temper it.

they don't temper to keep cost down and allow a more custom-ize-able fit to save sizing

Ok, I was referring to actual, useable armour. That can only get bent so many times before it breaks. It is also harder to make sure the articulations work after getting bent. I personally would use around 16ga. stainless or spring for a project, if I wanted it to work after a year of practice. Even then, it would be armour, not an arm/shield.

I practice ninjutsu, so I want a shield type of thing thats light enough and I can block swords with. I can't really go full scale armor if I am trying to sneak around.
