I have this sword. It's a nice light cutter. For 89 bucks that's a great deal.

Not my type but for under 100, I am going to try and get my pirate on. :-)

I bought one. It's been on my List for awhile, though nowhere near the top. The big discount tipped the scale for me. I hope I can use it on stage someday. Treasure Island maybe?

Nice wall hanger for sure! And to know you can grab it and cut with it and not worry about the blade becoming a missile is sweet!

It's been discussed here before and I thought that $90 for a non-SLO that looks so much like a movie sword was a steal. Glad some folks were able to take advantage of the deal! I'm looking forward to getting mine-Windlass makes really nice shorter blades.

Setting a speed record, my Pirate Hanger arrived at my door from MRL on Wednesday after being ordered on Sunday. I am most impressed with this speed of shipping, and am favorably impressed with the hanger itself. Nicely balanced with a nice blade presence, I find it to be a nice little piece overall. I may polish the brass from it's theatrical greyish-black finish to a more normal shine and artificially age it.

What do you think of the grip? One of the knocks on this model is that the grip is too round, making the sword turn in your hand.

Mine should arrive next week.
I was thinking if the grip is too round, I would just file the sides down and do a quick rewrap. The easy way of course is to just leave it alone. :-)

I ordered mine on Friday and it shipped a couple of hours later. And I ordered it sharpened! I got it on Tuesday.
It a very nice little piece, especially considering the price. Very light. Pretty sturdy. I like it.
The only complaint I have is the same as already mentioned: the grip is round. I have not done any cutting with it so I can't say yet if this shape affects the edge alignment or if the grip twists in the hand.
Sanding the sides of the grip and re-leathering is definately something I am thinking of doing sometime in the future, but until I try it out I can't say it's necessary.

Yeah, about the grip. It's round, true, which isn't always a bad thing really, if one is using, say, a smallsword or Epee'. However, on an edged (as opposed to just pointy) blade, round isn't the best. Not only is it round, but it tapers both fore and aft equally. This is awkward on a curved blade, and makes control more difficult. I know it makes my carpal tunnel hurt something fierce, so I see some re-shaping in it's future. I also note the size of the guard, which is startlingly large and perfectly round. I like the large guard, it certainly gives adequate protection to the hand. Allegedly, the moviemakers found a genuine hanger circa 1740 that they duplicated for Jack Sparrow. I've seen a photo of the original, and while I consider them about 75 years off in dating it, this does indeed look like a faithful copy of that piece. Now whether or not it's actually a genuine original, or just a bit of movie fudging, I don't know. One thing I did notice that has nothing to do with the sword itself is the scabbard. The "original" and the props have a brass stud on the locket to lock into a frog, while the Windlass has just a smooth face. I'm not sure just how one would actually use the scabbard to carry this sword. The scabbard itself is fairly soft, smooth leather, and the locket is both short and smooth. One could use neither frog nor one of those carriers that strap to the scabbard. One would have to solder something- stud, hook, ring, staple- to attach the scabbard to a belt/baldric should one wish to use the scabbard for anything but a blade cover.

I received mine last night. It's OK, I'm kind of meh about it. The grip doesn't bother me. There's no serious attempt at blade geometry and it feels kind of dead in the hand. Since it's under two lbs and very short, it doesn't feel too bad. It will work for my purpose, stage prop. I won't mind if I mess it up during stage combat. If I use it for that, I'd better file down the blade tip first.
It was worth the discount at $89.00, but I wouldn't pay the full price of $175.00 for it.

Fair opinions all around. I've had three different Sparrow swords over the years and this was the one I kept. Decent compromise at its price point.
I decided I'm going to sell mine in the upcoming weeks, look for it on the classifieds if anyone missed this sale. I'll have mine priced under $100 as well, sharpened.
