Hey guys, before you think this is another noob asking questions about what sword works best against zombies.. hear me out. I was searching for a functional yet economic naginata, I stumbled across a interesting website. zombietools.net/tools/ These guys claim they make functional swords out of 5160 spring steel, and personally the designs look like the tang would snap if you tried hitting a 1/4 inch branch let alone a tameshirigi... So I was wondering if any of you know someone who Owens one, maybe you've given one or two a swing, and could offer me some insight. Also, I did a quick search in other forum sections and didn't find anything about these, but if I missed something please point me in that direction. Thank in advanced guys!! Deadbolt

I have no personal experience with ZT blades but I have seen them discussed in favorable light many times here. From what I've learned 2nd-hand, it appears that they are good swords and extremely tough, but most people do not like the 'acid-splattered' finish they offer. I hope some people with more direct knowledge will chime in as well, but at least now you know that they are respectable and not SLO's by any means. HTH, -Slayer

If you go to the review index and scroll down to the bottom, you'll see some zombie tools reviews. You can order them without that finish.

I've handled and cut with a few different Zombie Tools swords. I personally really like the D-Captain... and hope to pick one up at some point. They would *NOT* snap in cutting, if they are anything, they are super durable... maybe a little over-built. If you want something very durable, Zombie Tools is a very good option.

No need to feel sheepish, man. Everyone has to learn sometimes and there's no harm in finding a great new supplier of stabby-choppy goodness! -Slayer

I dig the whole design concept of these swords but I would think they are mostly for fulfilling a fantasy fetish. I believe that they would be absolutely effective against zombies but since they most likely won't be your actual target (at least for now), I believe they are a bit overbuilt and overpriced for a realistic and sensible backyard cutter. Functional swords are more than a just thick and heavy piece of steel or a neat concept, they are well balanced and designed for practical purposes. I think the ZT swords would be cool to hang on your wall and show off to friends, but I have a feeling that these could be somewhat tiresome and awkward to cut with on a regular basis but I do not own one nor have I ever handled one so this is just my opinion based on the description and looks.

With many of them, Bunnyman, you are likely right... but I was surprised at how well balanced and weldable the D-Captain is. Otherwise why would I want one? ;-)

See, that was an original thought of mine. The one I was looking at ordering is the Mac daddy. At first glance it looks like a warriors naginata, a weapon I have some training in, but closer inspection it looks off balance. These guys claim they are swordsmen but I haven't found where exactly their training is, to me they are fulfilling the market need. Every knife company and sword manufacturer is selling some kind of tactical zombie slayer. Its a lot of money to spend on a wall hanger, I'm not sure it would fit with my collection in the making lol.
Who knows, hopefully I'm wrong, odds are I'll buy this gorgeous hunk of steel, or as slayer so eloquently put it:stabby-choppy goodness.

Here's a destruction video for you guys... Warning, if you are squeamish, and are sensitive to sword death don't watch.

Zombie Tools has created some of the best swords and knives I've ever come across. I've actually acquired over a dozen ZT blades. Please check out the FB page I created called "Zt For Life." I feature many of their works and provide updates on upcoming blades, news, and ship photos. www.facebook.com/ZtForLifeAnd if you want some knife porn... Check out the video I created as well. Thanks!

Amen, brother. Even in its current "pathetic" (according to you at least!) state, your collection still houses a ton of phenomenal blades.

So, what have we learned?
Although the company uses an acid etching on all of their swords, and the produce weapons for a seemingly improbable future event; they do indeed make quality usable sword/weapons. They look to be a medium cutter, and could most likely stand up fairly well against pool tubes, beach mats, and maybe even tatami mats provided they have the balance for that.
I think from this thread and he destruction video I posted I may infact purchase one of their blades. Provided I could even get a hold of one in stock!!

You won't find one in stock.... they have about a 4 month waiting list these days. The only way you will get one swiftly is via the second hand market... and they don't pop up that often.

Guess marketing to the zombiephobes is good business! Maybe you guys need to introduce some zombie whackers to your product lines. The designs look interesting, seem pricey, but I guess with a 15 week backlog it's just me thinking that.
