Well
Answers -
Leo W. is Leo Wong, nice young lad, works for a Taxi Truck company, studies at University, plays Tennis and would have been drawing with pencils in 2001

I'm not up for an international call, but I think if someone just called the number on the Skyjiro site, we might get some real answers.

I can call David Goldberg. It's a local call. What should I ask him exactly. To clear this nonsense up. I personally think this is all irrelevant. If you like a product buy it. If its good great, if its bad oh well better luck next time. But to go on and on about these matters that don't even effect you at all. Who cares. If you don't recieve your item then there's a problem. But that's not the case here. Overall this was a good review on a nice looking and good quality blade.

while I kind of agree with you, there is an issue if they are actually lying on their website. it hasn't been proven that they are yet, but it does raise some questions about when and how they operated a forge in Queensland Australia, whether or not they still are, and if so who's running it. now at this point I still think there could be simple answers to all these questions. But it's worth finding out, I think.
and to address your question, I would ask him if they have a forge they are operating in Australia, and if so where it is and who is the Smith. And if he says they do not have a forge there ask him if they ever did and also where it was and when it closed and who was running it.

So, has anyone called Skyjiro to find out their answers to these questions?

No animosity, while we can all accept advertising that, like the "miracle" face cream promises much but delivers less.
However when a company sets out to misrepresent itself it raises the spectre of integrity - there are many forges in china, small and large, many produce good blades, some not so great.
The weaving of a complex story about a companies beginnings that falls down under scrutiny leads me to question the company as a whole.
Calling Leo Wong in Queensland is not likely to get to the truth either, Leo is not even confident enough to put his surname to their web site, preferring to be Leo W.
Judosailor is happy with his sword, that is always a good outcome.
In my 50 years of collecting I have had wins and losses, if I have said anything that is in error I will profusely apologise, at this time it appears "Skyjiro" Australia in not a registered business, does not have an ABN nor an import/export licence, was not a registered company in 2001 or before and I cannot find any reference to a forge in Queensland moving to China.

"Calling Leo Wong in Queensland is not likely to get to the truth either, Leo is not even confident enough to put his surname to their web site, preferring to be Leo W."
As someone who has taken part in online investigations of alleged fraud and misrepresentation (as a long time and former member of bullshido.net), I would say calling Leo Wong is absolutely essential. Let's hear what he has to say about all this. While everything you've discovered is quite suspicious it is still possible that there are good answers to these discrepancies. Or he might end up actually admitting some things and changing their website to better reflect the clear truth (which I've seen happen).
Maybe you don't want to be that confrontational, which I get. But I think you could easily just let him know about this thread and that some questions were brought up that you were hoping he could answer.

And hey, Mods! Maybe we could get the skyjiro australia discussion split into it's own thread? Would be easier for people to find who are searching for information about the company and particularly their australia location. And it would be less of an incredible derail for my review thread. What d'ya say?

[ closeup [/quote] I'm a total novice, but for $6K doesn't the fit of the habaki seem a bit, well not lined up with the blade as well as it could/should be? I just took a look at my $150 Ten Ryu and its habaki seems better fitted to the blade. ( I'm working on a review of it now) Don't hesitate to tell me if I'm nuts, I'm real new to katanas

The more I look at that picture, the more it appears to be an optical illusion... I'd love to see it from a better angle. :?

I still think that hamon looks phony...the edge of it is too perfect and the waves are so uniform.... but maybe that's what $7000 gets you? It is possible I guess...the probem is how often does the average sword fan see a $ sword of that caliber?? I'm sure some here have but not me. :-)

It's not an optical illusion, you can see the habaki reflection in the blade and it's the same depth.
download the photo and zoom in with your favourite image program.
