I played AD&D First Edition for many years starting at age 11 (I'm 44 now). My characters always carried a bastard sword or a longsword. And I've read countless novels (Dragonlance, Shannara, Lord of the Rings, etc.). Between those and the films growing up (Conan, Highlander, Willow, Excalibur, Dragonslayer, et. al.) and making padded swords to spar with friends, it has been with me most of my life. Most recently what sparked the desire to have the real thing and not the ornamental wall hangings was HBO's Game of Thrones. The bug was getting bigger with Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies, but it was Game of Thrones that finally bit me.

I was 7 (I think). My mother took me to visit a guy who worked with her. They sat in the kitchen talking. There was nothing for a kid to do so I was just bored. I saw, on the table a tray of swizzle sticks. They looked like these.. Except they were made out of silver. Solid silver. I had seen swizzle sticks before, but something about seeing a solid silver sword shaped swizzle stick struck some cord in me. I remember wanting one. Of course them being silver I couldn't have one and I recall pitching a huge fit about it. Something about seeing a silver sword hit me at 7 years old and the love and fascination of blades has never left me, even at 46 I still love them. That's what got me, strange as it may be.

As a kid I just had an affinity for swords. I believe I broke my sisters nose a few times accidentally when she would walk in the barn unexpected. Id be in my (child forms lol) and she would always seem to get bumped.
Then I found D&D the first set of books.
Ive wanted swords my whole life but just recently got into them. Im learning a lot form this forum. Hope to keep learning.

Always been a fan of swords and knights (like each healthy boy). Then I discovered someone in my neighbourhood teaching 17th century style rapier fencing and the rest is history.

Video games here: I had a character collecting interesting swords that she found and I ended up doing much the same thing IRL. Although the depiction of swords in games is getting quite realistic, it still took me a while to develop an appreciation for "real" swords rather than my inclination for the over-embellished examples that can look good on both the big and small screen, but once it's a taste that's been acquired, it can be quite addictive!

In high school, my best friend's father had a gunto hanging on the wall, my friend's uncle brought it back from thenpacificntheatermofmoperations having captured it in battle. When my friend's father wasn't around, we would take it off the wall, unsheathed it and examine it. That sucker was scary sharp, in great shape and captivating. That put the sword fascination into my brain.

man everyone has something good but me :? , anyways i don't have a home computer so i have to use the ones at the library and so i have to cut things short.
well as I said Samurai 7 was one of the main reasons but movies like the Highlander, my love of military history, animes like high school of the dead(see Saeko Busujima in killing zombies with a Kissaki Moroha-Zukuri-style double-edged nihonto katana. what not to love) and many other things like the whole zombie thing but for the most part for me it's something i did in a past live.
As far back as I can remember I had dreams of warfare from modern warfare with guns to warfare with bows and swords. These dreams are very real and most time I there fighting it but it's like i am watching it from inside someone else like a ghost or something. I can smell, taste, feel and hear everything like real life and i am places i have never seen before like fighting the British in the Middle East. Also i have had dreams and a feeling in a past life i was a bodyguard/soldier that worked for a royal family or a personal servant that worked/protected a young princess (most times i am Chinese or some African country).
For some reason i have always liked short swords and when i got my 1st sword the thing called out to me. I did not even see the thing for sale but i had a feeling it was there under a pile of old shirts and i had to have it. When i got it i walked across the street from where i got and test cut it on a small sapling and it cut it cleanly. I did not know were or what that sword was (i thought it was a gunto wakizashi but after some research i found it was not. you guys told me it's some kind of Burmese Dha).
as they say the warrior weapon , it shape and abilities are a direct reflection of their soul, it when the warrior finds a weapon that compatible with their soul that they can master it and unleash it's full power and the pair can grow stronger together. Your soul’s weapon is born with and dies with you.
