I've recently come across a few complaints about Ronin Katana. One was that the blade is not always uniformly sharp. Another is that the ito is loose. Is this just the way production katana are? Are there companies you guys recommend over Ronin due to these issues?

You will find people that will have had issues with pretty much every production katana on the market. Some more so then others. I have only ever owned one Ronin Katana, and I was very impressed with it. Ito was tight, blade was great, fittings were iron and good.

i've not heard bad about ronin before, and to be honest a sword should have different levels of sharpness along the edge.

They are better than almost any other at that price point. I have had two Ronin's, a 1045 katana and a 1060 wakizashi. Both had slightly loose ito, but not sliding around loose. This is pretty common, and it should be mentioned that while not the finest, the ito itself is also better than most at this price point. Things like this and the mentioned uneven sharpening are byproducts of mass production, and are unavoidable. If a lemon is had, Chris S.(owner of Ronin Katana) will get it straightened out. Really solid guy.

I have owned a few Ronin. They are still good and functional and neither complaint is bad for the price.

They are a pretty good value,a good sword,I believe there are better available, depending on what you actually want in your sword.I think the name implies more than you actually get tho.The 2 I have handled had to be rewrapped before the sensei would allow them in his dojo. But then thats a problem with many production kats. And Ive seen worse in other dojos. If you like a variety of koshirae themes, its a good choice. If its a tough blade you are after, its tough enough I suppose, but there are better available.Alot of others seem to really like them.
