I already know that i'm getting the two handed gothic, but I am also looking into good one handed swords that are beaters and are somewhat historically accurate.
I've been looking into the DSA norman, The DSA Knight, some of the DSA Norseman swords such as the olso viking, and the colsteel Viking and Hand and a half sword. Any other recommendations? Thankyou

Gun, keep in mind I have handled none of these but I'd pass on the Coldsteel hand and a half, I've seen a few reports of the pommel coming off those. The DSA's look a bit heavy to me tho they certainly seem durable. I've been thinking about the Gen2 Norman if I can ever find one in stock, Charles likes his.

Yes, and I think Brian would agree with me, it is quite the lively sword.

but is it's durability and edge retention even close to a DSA blade?

hey Ric, the Gen 2 Norman is in stock in Imperial weapons. Can you tell me more about the blade? Can you compare it to a DSA sword?

but is it's durability and edge retention even close to a DSA blade? It's a good sword, and I consider it my favorite 'fun' cutter. www.swordsofvalor.com/armingsword.htmlIt doesn't compare to the durability of a Darksword, but a Darksword isn't as lively, either. Depends on what you want to do with your sword.

Gun, I haven't handled any DSA swords so I can't make a comparison. I have a Gen2 12th century I like and can be handled one handed but its a bit of a bear. I been looking at the Gen2 Norman as a lighter one hander tho I haven't handled one myself.

I second the sword of Auray. It's very attractive and everything I've heard on it has been exceptionally enthusiastic and positive!
A very good sword to say the least.

LOL, well now, Gun, seems you got a few choices and they all sound like good ones. This is always part of the fun for me. Which one..........?

Hey guys...my recommendation would be the Windlass German Bastard Sword....I just got it like 15 minutes ago and I am impressed. this thing is just under 4 lbs but you dont feel it. it is very well balanced and FAST, easily wielded with one hand (its shorter than I expected), feels much lighter and better balanced than my Sword of Guy and feels way stouter than my Godfred. This will be my primary sword I use with my shield. anyway I'll get some pics and do a proper review either tonight or tomorow ;D ;D ;D

well I've narrowed my decision down to the DSA knight sword, Windlass sword of auray, windlass oakeshott, and the gen 2 Norman, though I'm not sure about Windlass because I heard that they were a hit or miss. and I heard that Gen 2 had had some temper problems or something.
I got a butload of money for christmas, an I'm not afraid to spend the most amount of money for the best sword possible, though it has to be a sword below $300 or my mom wont let me get it

The problems with Gen2 are all behind them. There was never any problem with the Norman anyways.
There's always other options out there. You don't have to take our word for it. Go find something you like the look of. Take a look through the review section. It doesn't hurt to take a little while and research. If you have any questions about them, we can help.
Just don't limit yourself to what we reccomend. That's all I'm saying.

Make sure your not looking at the Practical Norman. It's a reenactment blunt, so it wouldn't be sharpened.
The regular Norman is sharpened.
