I haven't been able to refresh my memory on Redwall creature's liturgical habits recently. If its worth the money I might get the latest one.

Redkite... It sounds so familiar. The only bird I remember clearly was the Warden. Warden: "I am the Law!" (Some various redwall mice, squireel etc.) "Sounds like the law wants his dinner." Well, I think we've strayed pretty far from viking shields.

Rakkety Tam used a targe. Does that count? Warawarahoooooom HAAAAAWWWWWWM! HAAAAAAAAAAWM! I love ( I use love sarcastically) how so many of the weapons/shields carried are so obviously drawn out of a hat, per se. There is no reason why a lot of the weapons would be used, becuase the conditions that would have created the evolution of these weapons is not specified. This happens in all fantasy, but in redwall its more pronounced bcause they are, well, animals.

I refuse to pass judgement.
Redwall is something I willingly do not put to my typical standards of accuracy jsut because I love (not used sarcastically) the books ;D.

In the bellmaker there was a tribe of voles who used flails. And only flails.

In the bellmaker there was a tribe of voles who used flails. And only flails. Maybe they were deeply catholic and felt the need to punish themselves for wrongdoing?

You must have a suvante-like memory to remember all these names, Ramm. They just barely ring bells to me.

Depending on the timeperiod, it was either belt or baldric. The baldrics seem to have been more of an earlier Norse thing (7-8th century), while from the 10th cent onward, suspension belts reflect the iconographic evidence.
And 11-12th integral swordbelt is the epitome of Medieval pimping.

So, was there any ever group of warriors who carried their swords on their backs, or is that just a modern myth?

Seems like it would be hard to draw a sword from my back, using a regular scabbard I mean.

it is allmost imposable it requires a special designed scabard

Or a specially designed suspension system with the standard scabbard.
