I am thinking about branching out into Del Tin rapiers. I read the Del Tin reviews and learned something about the crude casting of some of the hilt components. The photos of their rapiers seem to confirm this, though the blades seem way better than the Windlass and Hanwei products. Is there anybody on this forum who has anything to say about Del Tin? Is it worth the extra money?

I think they are worth it. If you use them for sparring they have a tip snapping off tendency Other wise the hold up great.

If you're looking for a blunt rapier you should check out Baltimore Knife and Sword. Many people swear by them and they're a little cheaper than a Del Tin.

Hello, sorry I've been away with work so i didn't have my personal computer. The tips break because the disal taper at the tip of the blade on some models stops and then picks up again. Here are a few links of tips breaking pics michiganleftturn.org/Del_Tin_Bre ... 4-07-b.jpg michiganleftturn.org/Del_Tin_Bre ... 4-07-a.jpg michiganleftturn.org/Broke-2007b-2.jpgThere was clearly some abuse going on, but thats what happens when in the one instance you try to cut a helm with one and the other 2 when you don't have arm give when striking a sparring partner.(note the pics are not mine) As for BKS I strongly recommend them, never seen one break (and I've seen them abused for years now) and they are always willing to work with you on a desing. If you need John's e-mail to ask about stuff I have it, other wise I think it is some where on their site. Hope that helps in some way Ulahn. best of luck.

For rapiers I have a strong preference for Arms and Armor.

What's in those images does not look good. Looks like the blades snapped more or less in the same place. Nasty bits of steel flying about! Still, I have to stick with Del-Tin since those are sold in Europe. Importing Arms and Armour is too expencive, what with 21%VAT. This buys you a nice main gauche! The same problem with Baltimore Knives. Looks like I have to do the, Go East Young Man! , thing and see what is on offer there. As an alternative Lutel and friends come to mind. Anyway, thank you all for your effort. Cheers, Ulahn.
