if you were a star wars character you'd be HAN SWORDO! I like this new one of yours and the first one you show from the rest of your collection. Actually I kinda like them all- I like the style. Are the fittings metal or zinc alloy? they look like copper with that blue patina on the edges of the panther etc. Will you be taking the grip apart to see the tang and how it is made? And last question- where did you order this one from?! Links?

Thanks man! haha! This one is actually one of the best han sword I have handled so far! It's battle ready as I had did some abusive test with it now.. haha, no shake, no wobble, no cracks, nice! The fittings are antiqued brass on the damascus one and the others are more like blackened copper (cheaper). But this damascus one is really nice in hand, totally different class compare to the rest..!
The tang of this one? I don't know because I tried to unscrew the thing out and the pommel seems very securely locked in! If I force it to open, I am afraid the wrapping will screw up too, so I don't even bother to take it apart. Who cares.. haha.. i am not taking it to WW3 or MW3 anyway, hahahaha!
Got this from my student and he got it for me for $2xx something. I saw KofA sell this for $198 or something now, just go to their Chinese sword section and you will see it in-stock. It comes VERY sharp out of the box, nicely done!

Its a very nice sword. Makes me think I really should get one of Jinshi's Han jian now. (I know the one shown here isn't a Jinshi blade, I'm just saying if I get one its going to be the jinshi one)

In case it disappears from KoA, it seems to be by Hanwei.

I doubt so, the blade marked from Jeung's forge, meaning it should be related to China's dragon well instead.

if there wasn't engravings on the blade and if it was longer i would take that sword in a heart beat! i love the leather wrap (way better than the ''silk'' wrap i've seen on other swords)!! if sinoswords or huawei could reply to me i would ask for a quote for a 30 inches t-10 blade in octagonal geometry with leather wrap... i wonder how much it would cost from one of these makers... ah and i would ask for a wide tang (like 3/4 of an inch)

A monosteel Octahedral Han Jian from Sinoswords would probably cost between 2 and 300 dollars, maybe more because of the leather wrap, I don't know. I like the one in the vid, but the blade looks kinda cheap, at least from KoA's pictures. Obviously its pretty solid as we saw in the vid, But I would prefer an Octahedral blade as well. I may buy this one: www.ebay.com/itm/HIGH-QUALITY-CH ... 2ebf8d7cda Similar dimensions to the KoA one, only a tiny bit more expensive and its from a vendor I have had an excellent buying experience with in the past. I may even ask for the wrap to be done in leather too

if it wasn't so expensive i would have bought this one www.ebay.com/itm/TOP-QUALITY-HAN ... 416cd92da7 unfortunately i don't have the budget for this one and i would have prefered leather cording instead...

Wow...That one from Huawei really looks like it is quality. If it is the same as their other blades, that might be the best option for the price

For that price it's getting close the price of just getting the Jinshi. With JS you could get the differential hardening too.. If you're going to get an octahedral Han sword, why not get it with choice of steels and a nice double hamon? Oh yeah and then there is Garrett's 10,000 year guarantee against blade failure..

I had the Jinshi Han Jian and I was not very impressed. The fittings were dulled, the blade was not very sharp, and the saya did not look as nice as the wood Hauwei one.

Hey guys, this one I got is only $219, not a bad price. The one in the ebay link above is $399, about double the price, what do you expect man? haha! The blade is really tough and strong as tested, but I don't want to chop a steel can to test it, haha! It should be good enough, and the construction is solid, I can't even unscrew the pommel out, hahaha.. seems like everything is well put together. I don't even see how to secure it more because the thing feels like one piece together now. It's so solid after some banging too. I had banged it alot last night and it is still solidly holding with no wobble or anything, nice sword for the price~

Be careful with Chinese swords from this guy. I bought this item. The blade isR really nice, but the tang is all jacked up. Like in a really specially crappy way. And the handle is really bad too, blade moves around if you swing hard. I have the pommel screwed on tight, there's no movement at all and yet the blade still slips all the way to the downward side of the hilt if you give it a good downward cut.. In the air, I don't trust it to cut with. The blade is really very nice though LOL. This guy Yao is a really pretty nice guy to email with. But I suspect that he doesn't even realize that the people selling him the Chinese swords are not making them to the same standard as whoever is making his Japanese swords. Still Yao was so likable that I kind of feel bad even trying to asking for money back for this. He already said he would send a new handle so I was sortof just waiting to see how that would play out. Still I would recommend against buying the same sword. LOL. Here is the link to my review of it viewtopic.php?f=6&t=14458Looks like maybe the pics of the tang are broken, here they are again in other thread viewtopic.php?f=32&p=180522I think maybe I will email him tonight and asked for a partial refund after all

If you decide to buy one anyway though please take it apart and take pictures of the tang. I want to see if it's as fkd-up as mine is Mr whom: wow! That's the first bad thing I have heard about jinshi, and I was really close to ordering one.. Had basically given up on trying to decide on what to get engraved and just get the order form sent in. Was it really that bad? Did you take any pics or review it? MakChingYuen: nice video thanks. I can't believe how nice it cuts paper right out-of-the-box, very impressive. Did you give it a little extra sharpening of your own or was that right out-of-the-box. It was really hard to resist the urge to immediately buy one from kult of athena as soon as I saw what it what you did to the monster energy can with so little force. The leather grip is also a really nice departure from what most of these han swords seem to have. But what the heck, why did they put "ancient han treasure sword" on the side of it?! Is that just painted on like something I could sand off? Or is it actually engraved? If engraved how deep is it? I want this sword now. But for some reason it bothers me knowing what the characters say, it's like having a pirate cutlass with the words "this is a pirate sword" in block letters on the side. "this is a Viking sword" = no "ulfberh+t" = yes Hehehe.

Sorry...I just sold my Jinshi before I could review it.
It looked like the one in Paul's review and I would always trust Paul's rating over mine so do not let me dissuade you from getting a JinShi. It just wasn't for me and I expected the blade to be paper cutting sharp. I like the bright Brass and wood scabbard of the Huawei one better if I want a beautiful blade to do forms with. Maybe I just got a bad one
Bottom line...Trust Paul's 5 star rating over mine

I asked koa about this sword back in April. I didn't realize it was the same one as in your video and reivew! From KOA This sword is made by the Zhejiang Jiangshi Sword Company in China. The pommel is threaded to the end of the tang www.kultofathena.com/product.asp ... asty+Sword

Nope, I just got it that day and tested it straight out of the box, I don't even plan or need to sharpen it, haha! But disappointment comes in, the graphics and text are both engraved in, pretty badly done and deep too, I don't think you can even sand it off unless your blade can go like 1/3 thinner all the way! hahaha! I don't mind that graphic though, it's okay for me, the blade is what matters most. It's only a $200 blade, what do you expect? Sanmai? Wootz? hahaha! Man, it's a hand forged real deal, what do you want for $200???
The blade was touched up today by me and I had used 1000 grit and 2000 grit wet sandpaper to polish the whole thing up, now it is not as greyish and matte as it is out of the box. It's shiny but grey, reflective (without oil) but still light greyish, much more attractive than the original look. The patters are real though, sandpaper can polish the pattern out and if you use a flashlight to shine it sideway, you still see the pattenr of the steel, just like the jade lion sword, it's real folded steel, not welded damascus crap.
The Tang is a mystery still, because I can't even unscrew the pommel out, it seems to be either locked or glued in, so I don't want to risk breaking anything now. It's a nice sword and I had cut with it a lot now. It definitely hold well. Even banging the blade hard onto the chopping board while chopping targets downward, the blade isn't shaking or wobbly or anything after a few nights of insane playing. It's still sharp as new and the edge is holding very strong.
Btw, I had tried chopping DRY newspaper rolls, but I don't have a stand like the tatami thing so I put it horizontally on a chopping board and put that thing at my chest level, supported by a tube (mailing tube) at the bottom only.. pretty wobbly eh? Then I chop with full force down, it cut the thing in half and the blade isn't even having any damage or dulling at all after a session of cutting like that. No shakiness too, nice construction. I had cheaper han swords and they do shake and wobble after some cutting already, sucks. This one is definitely stronger than I think it is. Amazing for the price.
Well forget about the tang thing, get one and test it yourself with some abuse and see how well the construction hold to see it yourself might be the only bet~
