Hi all. New to the forum and I am going to buy some ebay swords. Not really looking for advice as to which on to go to, rather, I would like your real own bad experiences and your ebay id to reference your purchase please. The bad feedback left for these guys is more mysterious than the strange photos and many user names of the sellers. I am not going to take you seriously unless I can check you out tho to be fair, so if your legit then as is your complaint i would like to be able to check up on it. Im doing this because one person just left a unhappy face., thats it an unhappy face and no response when requested. One was left for a 20 something dollar sword like he just threw away somemoney to trash sellers and did thi on a couple of selkers for cheap nothing purchases. That is real easy to do and is not legitimate.seeing this does explain alot to me. Besides ebay has restricted ebay sellers from leaving bad feedback so really not much validity in the feedback system for what ever reason anymore. Thanks for helping out. If the posts are not in accordance with the rules or my request, i ask a mod to check in periodically and regulate the thread. Thank you

I would like to caution everyone that it may not be a great idea to reveal your ebay ID and allow others to go rooting around in your business.
It is invasive, and a bit creepy too...
I have had quite a few bad experiences on eBay.. and some good CS experiences that were still crappy swords. Ebay is a minefield of crappy swords. Katana1980 , Badtrach , DGSpirit, LeeSword, Tommy-LeeSword, Ryan Sword , Brandon Sword, Heart of Swords... all crap.
Now sounds like a disrespectful comment.
Honestly I don't care if you take me seriously or not. It's your money you'll be throwing away if you don't.

My .02, You can do some searches in the forum here, and maybe the swordforum and get many examples of good and bad EBay experiences. All that without being invasive. And I have to believe if you PM the original poster, they'd be happy to elaborate, and maybe even tell you who they bought from. For instance, I recently got a Windlass German Knight Sword from a random EBay seller. The transaction was smooth, the product nice, and I even did a review. So you have 2 things to immediately consider, first, is what you're buying what you think it is, and worth it, and two, is the seller good, or a slime. Both should be relatively easy to determine.
But as with all sales of that type, PT Barnum said it best...'there's a sucker born every minute'. So a bit of research can save lots of pain.
Just saying... Stay Sharp!

While I don't mind your intentions, as leaving just a frown face for negative feedback is a pretty douchey thing to do (and on more than one seller, to boot), I doubt anyone is going to give their ebay usernames here. I can say, while I may be wrong, most of us here wouldn't leave negative feedback unless it was actually a negative experience.

Po ~ Not sure what your intentions are with this... sounds like you may be an eBay seller yourself hunting down "bad feedback" people from your tone... but will give you the benefit of the doubt for now, and since you are new 'round here. So this is my take on your request: 1. If you have an eBay issue, take it up with/on eBay. This is not really the place for a discussion on the finer points of buying and their feedback system, IMO. And it is not the place for you to ask moderators to "enforce your rules" in your threads either. Why would you be able to make up the rules here? 2. If you come around the forum asking for people's "bad" experiences with eBay sellers, then question the legitimacy of what people say before they even say it, you probably aren't going to get much in return. As Mark said, this easily can be interpreted as an insulting/creepy thing to do 3. There are a bunch of legit sword makers and vendors out there, so you are by no means confined to shopping on the dicey world of eBay. If you question the legitimacy of eBay vendors, then join the human race. If these sellers make you feel not-so-confident by their marketing cr@pola schemes, then don't patronize them. Go somewhere else off eBay. That's what I do. These "can chop iron" claims and the other nonsense posted in most eBay sword descriptions are marketing gimmicks, and personally, I prefer not to send people my $ after they lie to me On the other hand, if as you say, you have committed to specifically buying eBay swords, but don't want advice on the sellers or their swords, I am at a loss to understand what you are doing here... After all, if your mind is made up already, why bother asking us? :? On the other hand, if you are sincerely interested in other people's experiences, I suggest you start here: forum.sword-buyers-guide.com/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=13315as lots of people have already taken the time to review their experiences with swords, both from eBay vendors (and sword makers outside of eBay) as your first step, then ask specific questions about models, sellers, and so on based on your research.

I purchased a sword from RyanSword -- the menkui were on the wrong side of the tsuka (reversed) and there was a small knick/chip on the ha, near the ha-machi.

I can respect that you dont want to give your id on the forum, (its useless to me other than a simple cross reference, but im not a cybercriminal), and with the line of people who are, and waiting to steal from anyone, as they can seemingly do anything with nothing, all is well and understandable. Im not an ebay seller of any kind, never will be. Umm sorry, i sold some golf clubs several years ago. Hope that doesn't count. I didnt post any made up rules that i expect anyone to adhear to so im lost on that one. As for me I have bought one sword on ebay. It seems ok (and know that by me saying that i am saying i receieved the item as i saw it in the picture, only by destructive metalurgical testing can i prove or disprove the claims about the steel, of which i may or may not do) and that was more because of the reassurance i recieved from this forum. So thats a good thing and built my confidence that i have found a good resource. I do have storefront and ebay sells some swords cheaper than i have found i can get them, plus most vendors here already have the markup built in so I cant profit from buying at their cost. I was looking to diversify. (was going to be helicopters but now everyone is doing that. ) I know this is a touchy subject that always gets blown way out of proprtion, and conspiracy to commit fraud can make anyone nervous. But if your truly unhappy and got burned, it stands to reason a person would want to value his money and correct the situation. That is not the trend im seeing in the feedback. Not concerned with ebay problems, i am concerned with conspiracy to commit fraud however. (let me elaborate, if a seller joins with another seller and makes a plan to offer a product that isnt true real or correct that is ctcf. But it doesnt stop there either. All persons are protected in commerce, and especially over the internet. Inerpol and the FBI are taking ctcf seriously as a cybercrime currently) Ninjedi (i see it now. Cool name. "Trust your feelings". ) Thank you. May i ask if you gave them a chance to fix the problem? How did it turn out if I can ask you. Im not seeing that any of the users that left bad feedback even did this. I would hope you did. I would, like everyone says it is my money. I dont care so much about leaving feedback, i am more concerned with getting what I wanted and paid for. I am not just looking at one seller, im looking to profit. Most of my customers come in for the guns i sell. I just would like to give thm more reasons to walk in th door. Plus I was just wondering if anyone that was bold enough to be this blatently transparent would step forward. No please understand i am not saying Ninjedi, (i would love to find mr unhappy face tho) Funny how the popular ebay sellers have some bad feedback and one has perfect feedback with some major problems with their products but a different attitude to the solution or whom is at fault in the good feedback. Two because i am (still ?) a fee american and im interested. Thank you.

If I were you I wouldn't bother with E-Bay. Musashi, Hanwei, Kris Cutlery, dynasty Forge and even Cheness make better products that will be more worth your time and money.

I believe that you are not... however in this world of bots combing forums and the fact that the ID would be posted there for anyone on the internet to see , it just isn't prudent... besides , I don't want anyone I don't know peeping around at my personal business. Why don't you register as a dealer and get swords for wholesale prices to sell at gunshows? Some good companies to rep at gunshows could be : Dynasty Forge , Ronin Katana , Hanwei, Musashi, Cheness and Munetoshi Cheers Seb snuck it in before me Not sure what you mean by all this exactly, but selling sempriniesque swords isn't exactly fraud... but it is a good way to keep from getting repeat business or reccomendations. One of the reasons that you see little negative feedback is because it is often removed or revised in exchange for considerations like refunds, partial refunds or replacements. Many people don't try to solve the issue because they just bought a $50 sword with $80 shipping from China.. to send the sword back and get another sempriniesque replacement just costs more money... this happened to me . Often all one can do is learn a lesson. This is a good tool for easily checking negative feedback. toolhaus.org/cgi-bin/negs?User=l ... eceived+by

I see what your saying mark but im not looking to be registered as a dealer right now. I dont feel my knowledg experience qualifies me to do this at this time. Selling crappy products does qualify as fraud. And joining up with others to do this constitutes ctcf. Which is different. You dont even have to sell crappy products. Just not what you advertise. But see, people can join together with the intent to ruin someones reputation. That is also ctcf. It is a two way street and i am not convinced, nor has it been proven that all of this stuff doesnt come from alibaba.net anyway surrounded by hype. I see some have found (through trial and error and contacting the seller to improve a product for commited buying etc.) a more consistant distributor, (read not the actual banger of steel) but i dont want commitments. That costs me money. Monthly money. Everyone seems to have an issue or two with one sword or another at one time in all of he forums, so ? What gives? Ebay just sells it cheaper than i get it from alibaba too. Just my .02 thats all. Im just a guy, looking to display maybe sell a couple o' swords. No rep to protect and just looking for the best value for my occasional money. Im sorry to keep on but man i hate this ipad. I go to correct one typo and it creates more. Its not very smart. I cant wait to cut this thing in half! Wait for the video if i havent been runt off by then? :? Dang i have to edit thid fity times just to make it clear. (in the voice of Kirk. Fist in the air....JJJJJJJOOOOOOOBBBBBBBSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!)

Well I doubt you will make any profit buying from ebay sellers either, Trust me , they are charging as much as they can get for them.... I had a Huawei in the classifieds trying to sell it for $95 less than I paid ($300) ,,, no takers at even that discount.
I am , and have been a rep for several different sword companies. There has been no commitment or structured buying for me... it has just been a good way to help support my hobby...

Sure you did. I quoted it before, but here it is again: since you dispute saying it. Seems to me it reads: Give me your eBay ID. I want to check you out to see if you are legit. If the posts you make in response to this thread are not in accordance with my rules and requests (e.g., being able to check you out), I ask a moderator to come in and regulate.Sounds like plain English to me... Whatever  Your original post didn't sound like the things people usually post here, which made us all a little skeptical. I understand why now... In any case, I'm here to help fellow sword lovers buy swords they are happy about, and learn about swords myself, talks about working on 'em and practicing with 'em, and so on I'm not really interested in helping someone figure out eBay issues or be a storefront seller or any of that stuff :? Not interested. Sorry I got involved with this thread. Carry on.

I see some of you are getting it. This country has more to worry about right now than complaints from foreign agencies about our disrespect for international rules of commerce. There are bad people knocking on our door to ruin our holiday and no one wants to spend money on a pety problem like this. But complaints wont be ignored i can assure you this. This isnt rocket science as no one masked their ip adresses before their activity. If you feel your comments were less than accurate or deserved it would be in your best interest to just remove them find a legitimate way to advertise in accordance with your profession. get your balls out of each others mouths and grow up. If i am not clear i am sure i can find a way to make it clearer for you. I have a sword hobby and want to continue here plus i do have a side business as well. If i can stay thats fine if not its just another forum. But do take this to heart.

First of all Po... this is a International Forum and the owner is from Austrailia and now lives in Japan... so all your "this country" stuff is pretty meaningless here.
Save the political rhetoric and the insulting comments.
Edit your last post or you will recieve a formal warning and this thread will be trashed too.

Well I guess I can offer some insight on this, even though my last eBay dealings are about 6 years ago. Not focusing on that aspect. Like most of us collectors, I too have tried to get a little extra from sword related things to fund buying more sword related things. But this is hard, today it's much harder than it was 5+ years ago when I used to buy and sell swords at miniature scale. I'll explain some of my reasoning here, now that I've actually studied business I know how hard it is to run a sword business in Finland. Again things are of course different in the US, but some of the general rules apply. First thing is that people now have much more information easily accessible than they had 5 years ago. For collectors this is a good thing, for sellers this is a bad thing... If I'm looking to buy a production sword, I run a search of X amount of shops and can easily see where I can find it at the cheapest overall price. Currently this is how it goes for me, and more than likely the "big dogs" can offer things more cheaply than small players, of course there are some expections. Second thing is that people who buy do not necessarily understand the whole process involved. This is one bad factor that I've faced this year. Like I said I had about 5 year break in my miniscule sword selling, so lots have changed during that time. Combined with 1st thing, this gives lots of trouble. Lets say I buy a 200$ sword, pay 60$ for shipping, pay 24% VAT (62$), so the sword will cost me 320$, add the profit margin you are after (lets say c.30%), so in the end you are in the 400$+ range, double the original price. Combine this with the fact that person who uses google to search the sword sees that it's sold at 200$ in some big retailers site. He's gonna be set that he wont pay over 250$ for it, because he doesn't understand all the steps involved, he sees it's sold in 200$, he's gonna expect he'd get it for 200$ range, regardless what the seller had to pay for it. 5 years ago it was a lot harder to find specific information on swords, therefore people didn't bargain so hard as they do today. Third thing, like was mentioned earlier the vendors need to make profit too, in order to cut one stop from the middle, you would need to be able to deal with directly with Chinese, Indian, Thai etc. forges. Do you have the needed contacts and language skill? Fourth thing, start small. You dont want to invest big money in case it doesn't work out. Sword selling in US is a rough business, smaller markets like here in Finland still give the possibility to make some profit. Unfortunately the market is so small you can't sell lots of swords per year. And people mainly just buy low end stuff in here, low end stuff in relation to shipping costs eats your profit worse than high end stuff. Fifth thing is dropshipping, it's possible option, but I don't like it. Personally if I don't have the product in hand, I won't sell it. Too many risks involved when doing that internationally. So I must have the sword in order to sell it, I don't wanna risk problems due to other factors than myself. So all the above things considered I've given up the thought of focusing on dealing as swordsalesman. Finally about the feedback system, it's weird how things go... I've had some weird feedbacks in relation to what I thought I would get. I've delivered a sword to a persons house and let him inspect it with time, asked if he was happy and still offered the option of take it or leave it without any commitments. I've gotten just mediocre feedback, even though I thought I offered the best possible customer service. Then I've just shipped the sword regularily and received highly praising feedback... It's just weird how things go. But in overall try getting a couple swords for sale, see how it goes before investing lots of time and money. But for maximum profit you need to get good relations with the forges/vendors you buy your stock from, as one simple Google search will give the potential seller all the needed information about general swords. Unless you deal with very unknown forge/swords, this will be how it goes.

Something doesn't sit too well with me with this thread. Where there's a profit motive and intentions aren't clearly spelt out/disclosure is lacking, beware - sounds like the OP if fishing for something, and frankly it sounds a bit fishy...

Ronin Po Welcome to the forum and I hope you will be able to find some brothers of the sword here!
I would love to hear any sword reviews you might be interested in doing.
Are you thinking of setting up a little ebay business for yourself?. Ebay is the future you know, it's where the world is looking for stuff.

If you are considering buying swords off ebay for personal use i would strongly suggest saving your money and buying from a reputable company. in my limited experience, paying more for quality seems to be a lot more satisfying than trying to beat the system by winning at ebay. even if you find a sword on ebay made by a high quality forge, it is more than likely a second or inferior blade that the seller got at such a cheap price that they can now afford to resell it to you at what seems like a bargain price. the stuff you can buy on ebay for cheap is already being sold for basically more than it is worth. unless you want to deceive people into paying more than stuff is reasonably worth, buying swords on ebay for resale is probably not going to be a feasible plan. on the other hand, if all you want is low quality swords that cost very little and can be resold by you on ebay for a profit, then you might want to take a cue from Mr Ryan D. Sword Esq. and get a bulk deal on the low tier 20$ stuff from jiangusword www.yourswords.com/chinese-sword ... /list.html then charge 15$ starting bid per sword plus 100$ shipping and be sure to state in your return policy that buyer must pay return shipping. now you are immune from returns maybe put some anime sword porn on your listings and then just sit back and let the hate flow through you while you get richer .
