Hello Gang, This is trully a great website for us 'noobs" and i have been reading reading and doing more reading! I am in the formative phase of my first and Only sword purchase and need some advice and to learn by others "mistakes". This might get a bit "long winded" so please bear with me. I will explain how i tend to buy things. When it comes to weapons, My idea is to not buy several "cheap' ones but to buy a good one in its class. For home defence I have a Glock 19 9mm, Sig Saur p200, a modified M1A 7.62 nato socom, so on so forth. Good quality, reliable and functional. Are there better?, maybe, but for someone that works hard for a living, they will and do serve their purchase. Now to the point. Nobody or at least very few people will use a Katana as a "main" self defence weapon, if a Firearm is available. Would you take a knife to A gunfight? No!... BUT, if you were going to own ONE katana that is reasonably priced, 250.00---1000.00 that might have to be used on another Combatant, probably not armed with a sword what direction would you look ? Here is what i am considering and why. Not in any order of prefference!
1. Ronin Katana elite line, either bare blade or one of the beautiful renditions of the "classic" design
2.cheness cutlery "oniyuir" demon lilly.. Yes demon lilly is a more proper translation. Smaller signature, Long overbuilt hilt for strength, the steel sounds exceptional for the price point.
3.One of the variuos "KO" katanas that would allow easier carrying strapped to a back pack and that woild allow itself to be weilded easier by a man in his mid 50's.
I will get proper training and LOL, will probably be the oldest person in my DOJO, which BTW , if anyone knows of a good one in the Washington DC area, let me Know ! .. and yes i know i wont be using a actual sword but thats ok and if my master has a preference for a certain type then that will be addresses somehow later.
This will not be a "beater" but a solid, for the money, weapon that will be medium functional, :good" quality, unlikely to fail given my personal limitations put on the swords blade, maybe beautiful but wildly more important is over all strong blade, wont fall apart easily and something i can leave my grandson when i am gone and he will think, "DAMN, Pop Pop was one cool $%^$er, LOL
I said this was gonna be long and if you got this far then bless you. Nice to meet you all and i will take and heed your advice and expertice !
