Hey folks,
I'm relatively new to sword collecting and wondered if some of you could help me out.
I'm trying to educate myself on who some of the top, Medieval swordsmiths are currently. Through this site, I've found a few that seem to come up often, like Angus Trim, Peter Johnsson, Vince Evans, Rob Miller, etc. Are there others you could recommend, so I could admire their work? How many of them take commissions presently? And what could one expect to pay?
Happily devouring any info you can provide.

As I understand it, and have seen on their previous works, pretty much all the people you mentioned do commissions that are regularly $800+. As I'm also new to sword collecting, I can't offer much insight aside from that, other than to check out Fable Blades. Beautiful work.

Exactly the kind of stuff I was hoping to find. Exceptionally nice swords. The woodwork on the Felarof is ridiculous. Damn.
Thanks, Shortbow. Much appreciated.

Man, you weren't kidding. I obsessed at a level today that would have made Howard Hughes uncomfortable.
Hell, I even started convincing myself I could make my own.
Please...somebody talk me down from this "Blacksmith for Beginners" site!
Great links, all of them. Thanks a lot.

Great stuff. Really nice armor. Even if it is...green. Let me guess, you got the dye from Bombus Finespindle in Ironforge, right? That guy could sell a snake as a baby rattle. I make joke. I stumbled onto one this morning, though, that I'll throw out. Looks like he makes more knives, but he has a few fantasy swords that look really impressive. The sword he did with Owen Bush is okay. I guess. If you like amazingly detailed hilts and pattern welded blades! Magnus Axelson. www.magnusaxelsonknives.com/knif ... ry-6641473

One thing I have found with custom swords is the wait time can be a little longer or alot longer than the original projected date. Fable Blades and Jeffrey Robinson are much better at keeping everything on schedule than others I have purchased from.
If you go the custom route, just keep in mind that stuff happens and sometimes there are delays in receiving your sword. The wait is always well worth it when you get that new custom sword in your hands.

I'll keep that in mind. I'm not exactly the most patient guy on my block, so I'll have to remember to up my Adderal dosage while waiting. How exactly does one get on a list, though? I've tried to contact both Angus Trim and Rob Miller via email, but haven't heard back from either. I assume they're busy and hope it's not because they don't think I'm a serious buyer with the funds. Because. Hey, listen. I don't want to brag, but...

You can always try the phone if they have a number listed or give a bit of time for them to reply. E-mail's not always the most reliable of communication methods. And better that smiths spend more time working on their craft than hanging out in front of the computer

Absolutely. I'm not so much impatient as I am impulsive. Although, I'm fairly sure those two traits are mutually inclusive. Good advice. Thanks.
