For some reason, I would love to have this sword custom made by a well-reviewed custom katana maker...probably from ebay or sinosword. www.ebay.com/itm/Damascus-steel- ... 1e6ea4c53c What do you guys think? what exactly is this style of katana? (Also, this sellerstuff seems pretty good...but a tad overpriced is underplaying it)

I'd say that's more dao than katana...but I'll wait for someone to remind me otherwise.
Either way, it is an interesting sword. I'm inclined too agree that it's a bit pricey, though.

Yeah, not a Katana, more Dao or Korean sword, worn like a saber/tachi. Nice though but your not going to find one cheaper if they are the only ones making it....

I don't know about these guys. They're a longquan forge and from their descriptions, they are pretty honest about whether the sword is machine-made or handmade, but that's about it. The only thing is that unlike others, they have ALOT of chinese swords and very little japanese swords, and I haven't heard of them. Anyone know?

Oh yea, I could see that. What do you think about their blade and what not? It's a bit of an issue that they're not specifying what kind of steel they're using.

From what I could see that's a ring pommel Miao Dao.
All their stock is pretty much the standard offerings coming out from LongQuan, there are many other sellers offering exactly the same stuff but most of these websites are in Chinese only so it's kinda hard to place an order. I really like some of their Chinese pole-arms, vicious looking things and no doubt would do some damage back in the days.

The Chinese pole arms are really nice, and I haven't seen a forge offering many of those. Have you seen this www.ebay.com/itm/Tortoiseshell-s ... 1e6bc559a0. 2 grand for an ebay forge sword -_-

You can see they quote "Hawksbill" for the shell.
quote "Human fishing practices threaten E. imbricata populations with extinction. The World Conservation Union classifies the hawksbill as critically endangered.[1] Hawksbill shells are the primary source of tortoise shell material, used for decorative purposes. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species outlaws the capture and trade of hawksbill sea turtles and products derived from them"

And I made a report to ebay, Turtle and Tortoise products are banned from sale on ebay.

I wonder if it's a miss in translation?

So I purchased my first SLO/Wall Hanger from this Ebay seller. The communication with them was pretty bad, where it seemed like they would use translation software to translate what I was saying and what they were saying, because at times it was beyond just broken english. They did ship it and gave me a tracking number. Since it was my first sword ever, I didn't know what to expect and I ordered a sword for $100 including shipping from China. The sword has some slight cracks in the metal, they don't look deep, I doubt the sword has been heat treated, and it's a rat tail tang in the round grip.
But then again, this sword may be totally different because for the $100 mark I wouldn't expect to buy a functional Jian.

Actually, 100 dollars can get you a pretty decent functional sword from st-sword or swordmaker/smith668, or if you want to drop an extra 60 a good sword from huawei. Sidenote: They all use translation software. lol
